Montblanc Summit Smartwatch Specs Review, Features & Price

Montblanc is one of many designer brands that recently joined the league of smartwatch makers. The Montblanc Summit is an Android Wear smartwatch with the latest Android 2.0 operating system with the likes of Tag Heuer, Louis Vuitton, Tommy Hilfiger and Movado. The Montblanc which is a German brand is best known for its luxurious pen, mechanical watches, and leather product.

As a brand, Montblanc is associated with luxury which as you know is expensive. The Montblanc Summit Smartwatch costs a whopping price between £765 to £915. This might end up to be thousands if you request for a personalised dial mode by one of Montblanc’s creative director. The Montblanc Summit smartwatch is made of high-grade materials, Montblanc’s themed watch faces, Android Wear 2.0 and heart rate sensor which is unlike other designer smartwatches which focus on only the aesthetic.

Montblanc’s name is associated with luxury, style, and class, smartwatches from fashion brands have delivered a better design than technology firms. This all comes down to the fashion brands expertise in coming up with attractive designs. However, that the same can be said about the Montblanc Summit smartwatch, it has a regular, ordinary look. Compared to an Android Wear smartwatch from the likes of Tag Heuer, Tommy Hilfiger, and others, it just lacks that captivating effect.

The Summit is a 46mm round watch which supposedly takes inspiration from Montblanc’s 1853 Summit watch collection, and while that be true in as far as the same material is used, that attractive design is missing in the new watch. However, it is missing the usual crown addition common to designer smartwatches that gives it that elegant look. The calfskin leather black strap design was inspired by the 1858 Summit and can be replaced by a range of other different bands if you prefer something more durable or bolder.

Although the Montblanc’s Summit is 12.5mm thick which is slimmer than Tag Heuer’s Connected Modular, it is not the sveltest of Android Wear smartwatches. The Summit has an IP68 water resistance certification which means it can withstand a little bit of water and sweat but it is not suitable for swimming nor should it be dipped in water.

The screen, however, is top quality and feature a curved sapphire crystal glass face which is the first time this kind of glass is used in smartwatches. It is a full touchscreen with no flat tyre. However, there is a thin not very evident black bezel that surrounds the edges of the watch face. Although, with so much major watch faces around you’ll likely notice it.

There is also a 1.39-inch, 400 x 400 AMOLED display which delivers high-resolution images and colour accuracy well. The screen is so bright it can be seen in full sunlight without any need to increase the screen brightness. This, however, is not as great as LG Watch Sport 1.38, 480 x 480 P-OLED screen resolution.

The Summit runs on a Snapdragon Wear 2100 chip, 512MB RAM and Android Wear 2.0. This ensures there is no difficult swiping through the user interface and no problem launching apps. The battery has a 300mAh capacity which lasts about a day without using the heart rate feature which tends to reduce the battery life significantly.
