OnePlus CEO – “Removing 3.5mm audio jack on OnePlus 6T is to equip fingerprint sensor under the screen”

In a recent interview with CNET, Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, revealed some information regarding its upcoming flagship OnePlus 6T. According to him, the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack on the OnePlus 6T is perfectly reasonable and therefore, the machine will have more free space to equip the fingerprint sensor under the screen, helping users Unlocking devices is easier than ever.

Specifically, Pete Lau explained that the integrated fingerprint sensor under the screen will allow users to unlock the phone with less operation. This is a much more efficient and reliable method than the recent popular face unlock.

In addition, it will also enable users to unlock the OnePlus 6T without having to pick up the phone just as the user has to do with the fingerprint sensor on the back of OnePlus 6. Pete Lau added: “After the Screen Unlock experience, you will definitely love it and realize that it is what you always wanted.”

Pete Lau said removing the 3.5mm headphone jack was difficult and distracted him most. Although the demand for the 3.5mm headphone jack is quite large and it is not easy to remove a familiar feature, however, they are required to do so and do not have a 3.5mm headphone jack for OnePlus 6T.

It’s one of the hardest decisions we have to make – the task of finding a balance between what is needed on the end product And what is forced to give up is not simple at all.”

Accordingly, the main reason for removing the 3.5mm audio jack on the OnePlus 6T is to make room for the fingerprint sensor below the screen. In addition, Pete Lau also provided data to demonstrate through a recent survey conducted by the company, with 59% of users choosing to use wireless headsets and remove the 3.5mm jack.

The OnePlus 6T will be 0.45mm thicker than its predecessor, the OnePlus 6. The phone is expected to be released on October 17th, with specifications similar to OnePlus 6 but with small changes in design, screen, and fingerprints. Recent leaks show that the device will have two color options, Midnight Black and Mirror Black.
