Report – Xiaomi to collaborate with MediaTek to develop custom smartphone processors

Xiaomi and MediaTek have built a very good relationship over the years and in recent years, Xiaomi has continued to source for more and more chipsets from MediaTek. According to a new report, both Xiaomi and MediaTek will work together to develop a new custom made smartphone processor.

Both companies have seen a great benefit from their growing partnership over the years. The Redmi Note 8 Pro, for instance, was the first device to be powered by the Helio G90T chipset. Also, the Redmi 10X was the first device to feature the Dimensity 820 chipset from MediaTek while a new Redmi smartphone is expected to launch later this year with a Dimensity 1000+ chipset. As such, a custom-built chipset wouldn’t be very much surprising.

This latest move by Xiaomi would be similar to what many other smartphone companies have been doing recently which is shifting towards custom-built or self-developed chips for their offerings. This news was revealed by a popular leakster known as Digital Chat Station. He revealed the news via his account on the microblogging site, Weibo. He revealed in the post that the relationship between Xiaomi and MediaTek has grown and they are both working on a custom processor for Xiaomi’s future generation of smartphones.

Unfortunately, we have received no official confirmation from either company. As such, I advise that you take it with a pinch of salt. For now, we can only wait and see if it turns out to be true.
