The Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 was launched alongside the Galaxy A3 some weeks back – on the 5th of January, 2017 at the recent CES 2017 event that held in Las Vegas.

Today, we want to feed the curiosity of those who have wondered what the Galaxy A5 2017 is all about, what it can and can’t do amongst other things.

Let’s go.

DESIGN

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this earlier or not but the Galaxy A5 2017 is a beauty! A beauty to the eyes and lovely feel when held. On the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017, the glossy glass and metal combo is just so perfect. At first sight, it could sometime have the Samsung Galaxy 7 look. There’s a resemblance factor between the devices.

The rear/back of the Galaxy A5 (2017) wears a really plain look. When you turn the device around, you will only find the sleek plastic cover which has the bold Samsung logo embedded on it. The other things you’d find are the small rear camera, and the next-to-tiny LED flashlight. At 157grams, the phone isn’t heavy as it feels just light in the hands. Lest I forget, the lustrous back is scratch resistant.

Turning the device back to the front, the big screen with a really small bezel welcomes you. And as it is customary with Samsung, he home button sits midly under the display and is flanked by the soft navigation keys. The earpiece for calls, proximity sensor and the front camera all sit above the secondary Samsung logo at the front.

Dropping down to the bottom, there’s a USB type-C charging spot and the 3.5mm headphone jack neatly engineered on the metal side. The USB type-C port is one impressive feature on this device. At the right side of the A5 (2017), the power/lock button exists. The volume adjustment buttons are however on the left side.

One more thing, the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 is waterproof. This is the device you want to take to the shower, use to text while washing the dishes and even while it’s raining. But hey! Be careful though, don’t take the A5 (2017) to the beach. It wasn’t designed to resist salty water.

DISPLAY

The Galaxy A5 2017 comes with a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display and a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The AMOLED screen together with Samsung in-built customisation settings, you can tweak the display to suit your want.

The 5.2 inch produces nice colours that are sharp as they come but colour reproduction is not as good as that on LCD screens. Colour contrasting is good as you can control how pixellated you want your display to be and also what colour you want in domination or how balanced you want colours to be.

PROCESSOR & OS

On the Galaxy A5 (2017) is a brand-new octa-core Exynos 7880 CPU. At 1.9Ghz, it is super fast than it’s 2016 predecessor. What is however disappointing is the fact that Samsung decided to have the A5 2017 model run on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. What on earth happened to Android 7.0? We have seen many midrange phones sport the latest Android OS (Nougat). Samsung seem to be forgetting that they are “Samsung”.

Futher handling processes, especially app functioning is the 3GB RAM. Storage purposes will be fulfilled by the 32GB internal storage.

CAMERA

There’s a 16MP at the rear. The camera is produces crystal clear images with nice detailing. Shooting outdoors produces the best images. Indoor shoots are great too. But doesn’t have that ‘outdoor greatness’. Subject focusing is pretty fast and accurate and image processing churns out better and more improved pictures. Sadly, there is no phase detection autofocus on the A5 (2017).

The front camera equals the rear camera in terms of megapixel. The 16MP selfie camera gives sharp selfies but doesn’t have autofocus.

BATTERY

There is a 3000mAh battery pack on the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017. This is way better than what we see/have seen on most Samsung devices – even on flagship devices. A super nice improvement in the battery department by Samsung.

As if that’s not enough, there’s also a fast charge technology that ensures that you get recharged as quickly as possible.

CONCLUSION

The Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 is a stunner from Samsung. Absolutely fantastic glossy body feel and design, waterproof and the superb equally-megapixeled camera that provides beautiful pictures.

The new processor and 3GB RAM too are sellers! And yes, the battery life? Wonderful. This is just that device that has been designed to make your 2017 a great one.
