Samsung Galaxy J3 Star VS Samsung Galaxy J3 2018 – what’re the differences? Samsung’s new budget smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy J3 2018 is out on shopping stores. Unlike previous years of the J3 smartphone, the 2018 version comes in two models, the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2018) and the Samsung Galaxy J3 Star. The Galaxy J3 2018 comes directly from Samsung while the J3 Star is from T-Mobile in partnership with Samsung.

The highlight of the Samsung Galaxy J3 Star is the support for LTE band 71, which is the band used by American unlimited network; T-Mobile. The J3 Star will appeal to the American users, cause they’ll get access to T-Mobile’s 600 MHz spectrum, which is said to offer twice the signal range via walls for improved LTE coverage. Aside from the band 71, let’s see if there are any other differences between the Samsung Galaxy J3 and the Samsung Galaxy J3 Star.

The design remains the same here, featuring a front glass with an aluminum frame and plastic back. In terms of dimensions and weight, both phones measure 142.7 x 70.1 x 8.9 mm and weigh 152 grams. Both J3 smartphones come with sizeable bezels at the top and bottom. The bottom bezel features a button and two navigation keys. While the top bezel features the front camera, speaker, and the Samsung brand name.

Moving over to the back, there’s no fingerprint sensor here. The single rear camera is aligned at the top center with the LED flash. The Samsung Galaxy J3 (2018) is available in three body colors; Black, Gold, and Blue. Whereas, the Samsung Galaxy J3 Star is only available in a Gold body color.

Unlike most J-series smartphones released this year, the Galaxy J3 doesn’t feature the OLED screen technology. What we have here is a 5.0 inch IPS LCD touchscreen with 68.9 screen-to-body ratios. Meanwhile, their display features a 720 x 1440 pixels resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio and 294 pixels per inch density.

T-Mobile obviously didn’t change much on the specs of the Galaxy J3. The Galaxy J3 and J3 star features an 8MP rear camera with f/1.9 aperture and LED flash. While up front, they both sport a 5MP selfie shooter with f/2.2 aperture. The rear camera has features such as Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama and HDR for quality pictures.

Powering both the Galaxy J3 and J3 Star is Samsung in-house Exynos 7570 chipset. The Exynos 7570 chipset is accompanied by Quad-core processor clocking at 1.4GHz and Mali-T720 graphics processing unit.

For multitasking, both phones come with a 2GB memory and 16GB internal storage. They run on Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung experience user interface overlaid on it.

The battery life of both J3 smartphones is the same with a non-removable Li-lon 2600 mAh battery. Meanwhile, without no fast battery charging support, charging from 0% to 100% can take up to 2 hours.

The Samsung Galaxy J3 (2018) will cost you around $199 (€170). Whereas, the Samsung Galaxy J3 Star is available for around $175 (€149). The only difference between both smartphones is the body color with the Galaxy J3 Star only available in Gold color. And the LTE band 71 for T-Mobile network.
