So our dear Samsung has decided to bring an upgrade to the popular “J series”. And as you would expect, it is a worthy upgrade. Very important features have been upgraded, and I’m sure you’d like it. Let us show you the nitty-gritty of the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017), and tell you what we think about it.
The device has been released in Malaysia.
DESIGN
Do you expect anything less than a perfect design from Samsung? I guess not. It comes in very colourful Blue, Pink, Gold and Black colours. On measurements, the Galaxy J5 (2017) measures 146.2 x 71.3 x 8 mm, while weighing 160 g. The camera is properly situated at the upper centre at the back of the device. On its front, there’s the front camera at its usual position and a fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint sensor is located on the single button right under the display of the device.
DISPLAY
Featuring a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, the display size of this device is set at 5.2 inches. This is at a ~71.5% screen-to-body ratio. A display resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels is featured. Taking care of the on-screen images and icon is a ~282 ppi pixel density. This display resolution has always been right from the 2015 version. The only upgrade in this department is the display size which rose from 5.0 to 5.2 inches.
PROCESSOR AND OS
Running on an Android operating system v7.1 (Nougat), the Galaxy J5 (2017) was rightly upgraded from the Android v5.1 Lollipop previous version it runs on. That’s a good upgrade too. It is built on an Octa-core Exynos 7870 Octa processor with a processor speed of 1.6 GHz.
INTERNAL STORAGE AND RAM
On the internal storage and RAM, the Galaxy J5 (2015) is differentiated into three variants. First is the 16 GB internal storage which comes with a 2 GB RAM for the Global variant. Another is the 32 GB, 2 GB RAM for the LATAM, SEA variant. And the 32 GB, 3 GB RAM for the Pro edition. I’m sure a 2 GB RAM would be just right to take care of the smooth running of apps on the device. The internal storage can be expanded to the tune of 256 GB with a micro SD card.
CAMERA
On the front and rear of the device, there’s a 13 MP camera. The rear camera comes with autofocus and a LED flash. Other features of the camera include Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama and HDR. The camera department is looking good to me here.
BATTERY
As its powerhouse, there’s a non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery. The talk time is up to 21 h (3G). The music play time is up to 83 h. The battery is sure made for average smartphone users. Heavy users should go for a much larger battery capacity.
PRICE OF THE GALAXY J5 (2017) DEVICE
The price of the Galaxy J5 (2017) is set at about 280 EUR. Price of the device in Nigeria ranges from N80,000 – N95,000.
