Samsung Galaxy S9 Cannot Delete Duplicate Contacts – See Fix

In this article, we will be fixing the problem of your Samsung Galaxy S9 when it cannot delete duplicate contacts. Before trying to carry out any steps on this device, it’s best to ensure that it is working on the most recent operating system version. If an update is available, then I propose that you install and download it first.

You will frequently have duplicated contacts in your device if you sync your contacts from numerous sources.  To repair this issue, you can try joining the duplicate contacts in your device.

  • Click and open your Contacts.
  • Tap More Options, and then Tap Manage contacts.
  • Click on Merge contacts.
  • Pick the contacts you want to join, and then Tap MERGE.

Once the contact has been joined, you can go ahead to edit it to your taste.

You can also select which contacts list to view on your device. It’s wise to pick one source so as to kill the option of seeing duplicate contacts.

  • From your Contacts, click on More Options.
  • Click on Settings and then Tap Contacts to View.
  • Choose the account with the contacts you want to show.

In cases where your Google Contacts list has duplicated contacts then you can fix this by going with the steps below.

  • sign/log in to your Gmail account, then tap on Gmail on the top left corner and pick “Contacts.”  Now you should be able to see all the contacts synced from your device and Gmail.
  • Tap on “More” that is found at the top of your screen and from the drop-down menu, Tap on “Find & Merge Duplicates…”.
  • Google Gmail will scrutinize for the duplicate contacts and then display the list. Tap on “Merge” and all your contacts that are duplicate will be joined together as one.

Here are more steps to try if the above steps fail

Check if the problem happens in Safe Mode

An application you downloaded in your device can be the cause of this problem. To see if this is the actual case you will need to begin the device in Safe Mode since only the pre-installed applications are allowed to work in this mode.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Hold and Press the Power button past the model name screen showing on the screen.
  • When the SAMSUNG logo shows up on the screen, now leave the Power button.
  • Straight away after leaving the Power button, hold and press the Volume down button.
  • Keep on holding the Volume down button until the phone finishes restarting.
  • When Safe mode shows up in the bottom left corner of your screen, leave the Volume down button.

In case the problem does not happen in this mode then it’s likely that the issue is caused by an application you downloaded. Look for the application and then uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the device

  • Turn off the device.
  • Hold and Press the Volume Up button and the Bixby button, then hold and Press the Power button.
  • When the logo shows up, leave all the buttons (‘Installing system update’ will display for about 20 – 50 seconds before displaying the system recovery options).
  • Now click the Volume down button to emphasize “wipe cache partition.”
  • Click the Power button to choose.
  • Click the Volume down button to highlight whether “yes” and Click the Power button to choose.
  • When the wipe cache partition is all set and done, Reboot system now.
  • Click the Power button to restart the phone.

Check if the issue still occurs.
