Samsung Galaxy S9 VS OnePlus 6 – Why OnePlus is named the flagship killer. The OnePlus 6 has finally arrived. OnePlus brand is marketed as a flagship killer. They offer specs and features similar to most flagship phones at a very affordable price. Despite being affordable, the OnePlus phones usually challenge other high-end smartphones. And has been giving other OEM companies lots of headaches in the high-end market. The new OnePlus 6 looks like a true flagship killer with its specs.

Well, there are a lot of flagship phones out there now. We have the iPhone X, Huawei P20 series, Samsung Galaxy S9 and so on. So it won’t be an easy ride for the OnePlus 6. For this article, we will be comparing the OnePlus 6 with the Samsung Galaxy S9. The Samsung Galaxy S9 is arguably one of the best smartphones in the market and has been around for a while.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and OnePlus 6 features an all-glass design with aluminum frame and button. This is a big improvement for the OnePlus 6, cause its predecessor OnePlus 5T has just front glass with an aluminum back and frame. The fingerprint sensor of the OnePlus 6 and Galaxy S9 is rear mounted. Below the fingerprint sensor is their individual brand name. The dual rear camera setup of the OnePlus 6 is aligned at the center with the dual-LED flash below it. While the Samsung Galaxy S9 features a single rear camera setup aligned also at the center. The LED flash of the Samsung Galaxy S9 is at the right side of the rear camera.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 weight is light compared to the OnePlus 6. The Galaxy S9 weighs 163 grams with an 8.5 mm thickness. While the OnePlus 6 weighs 177 grams and comes slimmer with a 7.8 mm thickness. The Samsung Galaxy S9 can survive in a 1.5metres depth of water for 30 minutes and has a certified IP68 rating. While OnePlus 6 has no IP rating. There are a lot of body color options to choose from in the Samsung Galaxy S9. The phone is available in six body colors; Midnight Black, Coral Blue, Titanium Gray, Lilac Purple, Burgundy Red and Sunrise Gold. While the OnePlus 6 only offers you three body colors option; Midnight Black, Mirror Black, and Silk White.

Both smartphones feature AMOLED screen technology, which gives them rich and deeper color display. The OnePlus 6 sports a 6.28-inch Optic AMOLED touchscreen. The screen-to-body ratio of the OnePlus 6 is at 83.8%, thanks to its notch display. The OnePlus 6 has a 19:9 aspect ratio, 1080 x 2280 pixels resolution and 402 PPI density.

While the Samsung Galaxy S9 sports a 5.8 inch Super AMOLED touchscreen. The screen-to-body ratio of the Galaxy S9 is at 83.6%, which is almost the same as the OnePlus 6. The display of the Samsung Galaxy S9 has an 18.5:9 aspect ratio, 1440 x 2960 pixels resolution and 570 PPI density. Protecting the display of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and OnePlus 6 is Corning gorilla glass 5.

The OnePlus 6 features a dual rear camera system with a primary 16MP f/1.7 sensor and a secondary 20MP f/1.7 sensor. The OnePlus 6 rear camera features OIS, which prevent shaking when recording a video. And it can also record video in 4k resolution just like the Samsung Galaxy S9. The Samsung Galaxy S9 features just a single rear camera but it’s more than capable of taking quality pictures. The 12MP sensor of the Samsung Galaxy S9 features a dual aperture of f/1.5 and f/2.4. At the front camera, you get an 8MP f/1.7 sensor on the Samsung Galaxy S9 and a 16MP f/2.0 sensor on the OnePlus 6.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, which carries 4-cores clocked at 2.8GHz and 4-cores clocked at 1.7GHz powers both the Samsung Galaxy S9 and OnePlus 6. Running their graphics is the Adreno 630 graphics processing unit. They both run on the latest Android Oreo software with their company’s own skin on top. For the Samsung Galaxy S9, you get Samsung experience skin while for the OnePlus 6 you get the Oxygen OS skin.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 comes with a rather small 4GB memory accompanied with 64GB, 128GB or 256GB internal storage. While the OnePlus 6 comes in two variants of memory size; 6GB and 8GB. The 6GB memory comes with a 64GB internal storage while the 8GB memory comes with a 128GB or 256GB storage.

The OnePlus 6 comes with a non-removable Li-Po 3300 mAh battery, which is better than the non-removable Li-lon 3000 mAh battery found on the Samsung Galaxy S9. They both support different version of fast battery charging, with the Galaxy S9 also supporting Qi/PMA wireless charging.

Samsung Galaxy S9 VS OnePlus 6 – The Price

The Samsung Galaxy S9 almost crossed the $1,000 mark and is available for about $990 (N346,500). While you can get the OnePlus 6 for around $613 (N214,550). Am not sure there is any high-end smartphone that can beat the value OnePlus 6 is offering. The OnePlus 6 will be my obvious choice between the two.
