Vivo Y83 has been launched by company as one of its smartphone for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Vivo is the official smartphone partner of the world cup this summer, the Y83 will be joining the Z1, Y85 and Y71 as the official smartphones for the world cup.
The device runs on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo, there’s 4GB of RAM, two variants in terms of storage, an octa-core processor and a tall display. It’s also the first smartphone running on MediaTek’s new premium chip, the Helio P22. Lets find out more.
Design
Unlike the Z1, the Y83 comes with just a single rear camera, which is the first thing you’d notice when you look at the back. Sitting beside the camera is a LED flash. There’s no fingerprint scanner as well, the company went for more reliable Face ID thanks to the new chipset.
The device was made from aluminium alloy and looks as elegant as ever, it’s also covered in glass, as it glows in the presence of light. The slim smartphone measures just 7.7mm in thickness and weighs 150g overall. It was launched in Black, Red and White colors.
Display
Another smartphone from Vivo with the notched screen, but this, however, isn’t as inviting as the Z1’s screen. Nonetheless, it comes with super minimal bezels, obviously, the bottom bezel won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
The tall 6.2-inch HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen is perfect for big screen lovers no doubt, but it lacks a lot in detail. It boasts of 1520 x 720 pixels in resolution and 270 pixel per inch density, for the standard visuals as a midranger. Impressively, the screen stretches up to 83% screen-to-body ratio.
Hardware and Software
Running the race here, is the new MediaTek Helio P22 MT6762 chip with Octa-Core processor and 64-bit CPU architecture. The 8-Cores of processor here clocks at a blazing speed of 2.0GHz with 12nm process technology. In the graphics department, the PowerVR GE8320 graphics processor dominates graphics.
For multitasking, there’s 4GB of RAM available with a memory speed of 933MHz. While for storage, there are two versions, one with 64GB and a cheaper variant with 32GB. Both are upgradeable up to 256GB using a memory card. The Vivo Y83 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Funtouch OS 4.0.
Camera
The 13MP rear camera has f/2.2 aperture and captures 4160 x 3120 pixels in dimension. The camera comes with HDR, autofocus, panorama, digital zoom and other quality features, including a LED flash. Turning over to the front, the 8MP selfie camera has f/2.2 aperture and supports Face ID.
Battery
Powering the Vivo Y83 is a 3260mAh non-removable Li-Po battery with fast charging technology. With the fast charging feature, charging the battery from 0% to 100% shouldn’t take up to 2.1 hours.
