Redmi’s new budget 5G smartphone!
So, as you may have noticed, almost all 5G smartphones ever launched, have a significantly larger battery, compared to their 5G predecessors.
But how much energy (the extra) do new generation networks really consume? Xiaomi has the answer!
Well, GM of Redmi (Subsidiary of Xiaomi) tried to answer this question on the Chinese social network Weibo, stating that on average, 5G smartphones consume 20% more energy compared to a normal 4G smartphone. In other words, it was something that forced all manufacturers to increase the capacity of the battery by at least 20%, in order to be able to offer autonomy comparable to the equipment already launched.
In addition, the Redmi executive also admits that the new Qualcomm SoCs in the 800 range (top of the range) consume 20% more energy compared to the 700 range (mid-range). What is clear, in the opinion of this manufacturer, means that battery capacity and software optimization are the keys to success in this generation.
Interestingly, the executive (Weibing) also spoke about the challenge of creating the Redmi K30 Pro, a 5G smartphone with a ‘pop-up’ camera. Saying that it was necessary to adopt an innovative design of the motherboard, making a kind of ‘sandwich’, when stacking components, in order to gain some space inside the body of the device. In addition, the use of a fingerprint sensor under the super-thin screen also helped with the placement of a 4700mAh battery. (To make sense, last year’s K20 Pro has a 4000mAh battery)
