WhatsApp for iOS switches to displaying images in notifications

The latest WhatsApp for iOS update will allow you to see the images you received so much faster. According to  WABetaInfo, version 2.18.90 of the messenger started to preview the files directly in the notifications.

So, in addition to the messages, you can check out a static image or GIF that someone sent you. If you’ve disabled automatic downloading, you can still download the image directly in the notification.

The new WhatsApp feature will also show an image thumbnail before expanding the notification. It should be released to users gradually and will be fully available in the next few days.

Another novelty is suspicious link analysis, which was being tested at least since July. The app checks to see if the URLs in the messages you receive contain strange characters. In general, these characters are used for the link if they pass by others and fool users.

If you receive a suspicious link, WhatsApp will display a warning indicating that it has suspicious characters. All analysis is performed locally, meaning there is no interference from the app’s servers and the encryption remains intact.

The application also gained Wallet support and some improvements within the Status, such as the option to search for what the contacts posted and the profile photo display on the publication screen.

WhatsApp version 2.18.90 for iOS is compatible only with iOS 8 and higher, but not all features can be used by older system generations. Images in notifications, for example, can only be viewed from iOS 10.

Also according to WABetaInfo, iOS 12 also does not support this version of WhatsApp. Users of the newer generation of the Apple system are expected to wait a few more weeks to finally receive the features.
