Asus Zenfone 5Z VS Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus – Specs Comparison. There’s is no massive upgrades between the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. But the Galaxy S9 Plus brings some new features required to compete among the best smartphones of 2018. Such as a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, variable aperture, bigger RAM size and so many more.

While Asus finally announced a smartphone worthy of competing among the best in the market. The Asus Zenfone 5Z offers so much more for less price. So let’s see how this affordable high-end smartphone competes against Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. I already did a specifications comparison between Asus Zenfone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S9. While the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus has glass panels in the front and back, separate by aluminum frame. The Asus Zenfone 5Z features the glass panel only at the front and an aluminum body. In weight, Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is heavier at 189 grams to Asus Zenfone 5Z at 155 grams. Not sure am a fan of heavy smartphone, i like them light in my hand. The Asus Zenfone 5Z is slimmer in thickness with 7.9mm. While the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus measures 8.5mm.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is taller while the Asus Zenfone 5Z is wider in dimensions. With an IP68 certified rating, the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is water/dust resistant. The Asus Zenfone 5Z is yet to undergone the test. So we can’t say for now, if it’s also water/dust resistant. The Asus Zenfone 5Z have its dual rear camera and LED flash aligned vertically at the top-left corner just like on the iPhone X. While the dual rear camera and LED flash of the Galaxy S9 Plus is aligned vertically at the top-middle.

The fingerprint sensor of both phones is at the back close to the top. For body colors to choose from, the Asus Zenfone 5Z offers only Midnight Blue and Meteor Silver colors. It would have been nice to see more colors on this smartphone. While on the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, the color variants are Titanium Gray, Midnight Black, Lilac Purple and Coral Blue.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus features its company trending Super AMOLED touchscreen. Which is said to be the best in the market right now. The screen measures at 6.28 inch with 84.2% screen-to-body ratio making it bezel-less. The Asus Zenfone 5Z sadly didn’t feature the OLED screen. But the IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen which measures at 6.2 inch size. Asus Zenfone 5Z is also bezel-less with a 83.6% screen-to-body ratio.

Asus Zenfone 5Z is equipped with a display resolution of 1080 x 2246 pixels and 402 ppi density. Although Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus’s display resolution is better with a 1440 x 2960 pixels and 529 ppi density. To protect the screen of the Galaxy S9 Plus is Corning gorilla glass 5. Corning gorilla glass is also embedded in Asus Zenfone 5Z but the version isn’t specified yet.

Dual cameras seems to be the new trend now. So it’s no surprise to see both smartphones featuring dual rear cameras. Despite Asus Zenfone 5Z promise to be affordable, it still didn’t disappoint in its camera quality. It sports a dual 12MP f/1.8 aperture with Sony IMX 363 processor and 8MP f/2.0 aperture with dual-LED (dual tone) flash. For selfie and snaps, it features a 8MP f/2.0 aperture front camera.

With Samsung manufacturing a smartphone with dual aperture, hopefully we’ll see more companies adopting this system. The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus features a dual 12MP f/1.5-2.4 aperture with wide-angle lens and 12MP f/2.4 aperture with telephoto lens. The f/1.5 and f/2.4 aperture is said to switch in the camera lens depending on the light conditions of the background. For selfie, the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus has a 8MP f/1.7 aperture.

Both phones are powered by the latest version of Snapdragon. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. Along with Octa-core 2.7GHz processor. This is more of a win for Asus Zenfone 5Z when you consider it’s said to be affordable. The latest operating system of Android; Android 8.0 Oreo can be found on both devices.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus has three models in term of in-built storage. Which is 64, 128 and 256GB ROM and they all come with a 6GB RAM. While the Asus Zenfone 5Z have three versions based on RAM and ROM. The 4GB RAM with 64GB ROM, the 6GB RAM with 128GB ROM and the 8GB RAM with 256GB ROM.

Asus Zenfone 5Z comes up a little short in battery life. The smartphone is equipped with a non-removable Li-Ion 3,300 mAh battery. While the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is equipped with a non-removable Li-Ion 3500 mAh battery. And they both offer fast battery charging system.

The Asus Zenfone 5Z will be sold for around $594 (N207,900). And the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus for about $1,225 (N428,750). The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is over twice the price for the Asus Zenfone 5Z. Yet, they both have the same hardware and software. The battery life is close and so for the camera quality. The Asus Zenfone 5Z will give one value for money than the Samsung Galaxy S9.
