Face ID is one of the most talked about features on the iPhone X. The phone comes with a superior TrueDepth camera which works very securely and helps you unlock your iPhone with ease. Whenever you unlock your iPhone X using Face ID, you need to make sure your eyes are open and looking at your iPhone X. The camera is able to detect when your eyes aren’t open or when they aren’t looking at your device. In such cases, the iPhone X will not unlock. But what of iPhone X users who are blind or have a low or impaired vision? Apple has made sure that even users who have physical limitations are also able to use the Face ID feature on the iPhone X. In such cases, they need to disable require attention for Face ID on their iPhone X so they can use Face ID with ease.
iPhone X users who have low or impaired vision need to select “Accessibility Options” while setting up Face ID on their iPhone X. This option does not require them to make full head motion to capture different angles of their face. Though this option is very secure to use, It still needs more consistency in how you look at your device. Also, users in such cases can also make Face ID require less attention to get their iPhone X unlocked conveniently.
How to Disable “Require Attention” for Face ID on iPhone X
So, if you do not want Face ID on your iPhone X to require that you stare at your device, you can easily disable the “Require Attention” feature to get it done. You should also note that it will have been turned off if you enable Voiceover during initial setup. To disable require attention, follow the steps below.
- Open the Settings app for your iPhone X.
- Tap on the General option and then tap on Accessibility.
- Finally, toggle the switch beside “Require Attention for Face ID” to turn it off.
With that done, you can now unlock your iPhone X using Face ID even when you are not looking at the phone or your eyes are closed. If later on, you wish to set the facial recognition system to require full focus to unlock, simply follow the steps above and toggle the switch beside “Require Attention for Face ID” to turn it back on.
