Garmin Vivosmart 3 Fitness Tracker Full Specs Review & Price Online

Garmin is taking its fitness tracking game to the next level with the new Vivosmart 3. The wrist-based wearable is the third sequel in the Vivosmart series after the last Vivosmart HR+. It is a shift of focus from the sport-oriented GPS enabled Garmin Vivosport, with sleep monitoring, exercise detection, stress tracking, rep counting, guided breathing and a heart rate tracker.

With Competition from Fitbit‘s Alta HR, this wearable is designed to go head to head and as a result the absence of a built-in GPS. The naming move away from the HR+ is an indication that Garmin does not want to focus solely on heart rate monitoring hence the introduction of VO2 Max. The VO2 max helps in fitness and strength training alongside rep counting too. The Garmin Vivosmart 3 is also cheap, and it costs abotu$140 only which makes it affordable to low-end buyers.

Although the design of the Vivosmart 3 is not its best suite, the design is functional. With a textured rubber with more unibody look compared with the last Vivosmart. There is also a black strip down the middle that disguises the screen which has a monochrome display that is totally invisible when off. The screen is quite small and falls short of the curve.

It is also waterproof; this means it can take a dip in water and not get soaked which is good news if you had like to take it swimming. However, it does not have an IP6 certification which means in this case the Vivosmart 3 is highly susceptible to dust and smudges. This makes it tough to keep the Vivosmart 3 clean most of the time, which likely occur at present with other wearables. Another improvement is that the display is no longer always on, but requires a raise of the wrist or tap to come alive.

Another improvement is that the display is no longer always on, but requires a raise of the wrist or tap to come alive. Also, the display is bright enough to be viewed under full sunlight and is also a thing of difficulty especially if you are trying the if you are trying to the raise-to-wake screen gesture.

The Vivosmart 3 tracks steps and heart rate all day long, giving you an on-device display of your beats for the past hour including the lowest and highest point. The optical heart rate sensors have been found to be more accurate at giving 24/7 heart rate monitoring than they are during rigorous activities. This means the resting heart rate monitoring is pretty much accurate and the step also counts with only negligible variations.

The Vivosmart 3 sleep monitoring feature is pretty accurate in measuring basic insights on the overview of hours and minutes of slumber. However, if a deep sleep insight is what you prefer the Fitbit Alta HR is the preferred choice. With the lack of reM sleep which the Fitbit uses heart rate to work out, and there are the sleep insights too. There is also the stress tracking feature which measures heart rate variability and uses it to resolve how stressed you are on a scale of 0 to 100. The Vivosmart 3 offers a five-day battery life which is however dependent on usage.
