ZTE Tempo Go Review – Low-End Smartphone Running On Snapdragon SoC And Android Go

ZTE recently announced the entry-level ZTE Tempo Go smartphone with the Android Go and Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC. Well, the Snapdragon SoC isn’t much of a surprise because the Chinese smartphone OEM prefers going for the Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC. However, this SoC is more of the low-end version. Also, the Android Oreo OS, specifically the Go edition is what the smartphone runs in. For the uninitiated, the Android Go edition is a stripped down version of the Android Oreo OS meant for low-end smartphones with 1 GB RAM to grant the phones access to updates and other cool features enjoyed by higher end smartphone versions.

Design & Display

ZTE Tempo Go sports thick bezels at its top and bottom bezels, even it’s sides have bezels that very visible. So, beauty isn’t one of the smartphone’s strong suit. However, the rear is smoothly furnished and occupied by the single rear camera, LED flash, ZTE logo and speaker grille. 3.5 mm audio jack and USB port appear at the top location. Bottom bezel houses the soft Android navigation keys while the top bezel holds the earpiece, front camera and light sensor. The Grey-colored smartphone has the dimensions 145.5 mm length x 72 mm width x 9.2 mm thickness.

ZTE Tempo Go has a 5.0-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with a screen resolution of 480 x 854 pixels and a pixel density of 196 PPI. The screen-to-body ratio of the smartphone is 66% while the display colors are 16 million.

Camera

ZTE Tempo Go captures images with from the rear with a 5 MP camera. The camera is supported by a LED flash which provides brightness in low light conditions. Added features of the rear camera are the HDR, panorama, auto focus, geo tagging and continuous shot. Selfies are taken by a poor 2 MP front camera.

CPU, OS & Storage

Qualcomm MSM8909 Snapdragon 210 SoC serves as the chipset on the smartphone. Enclosed within it is the Quad-core 1.1 GHz ARM Cortex-A7 CPU. This 32-bit CPU adopts the 28 nm process technology. Handling the graphics on the smartphone is the Qualcomm Adreno 304 GPU. The software operational on the device is the Android Go edition. As I said earlier, this is the Android Oreo OS in a trimmed fashion. Multitasking on the smartphone is taken care of by a 1 GB RAM while storage of files is placed in the hands of an 8 GB ROM that’s expandable to 32 GB.

Battery

ZTE Tempo Go uses a Li-Ion 2,200 mAh battery as its duration source. Also, the smartphone lacks the Quick Charge technology.
