Google is bringing new ideas for people who constantly make use of its services, especially for those who do so for free. It is possible that a few free services will be restricted to users soon. Though some of the changes coming to Google’s popular services in 2024 is not fully known, it is now clear that unlimited free usage of Google Photos will not be possible again in a short while.
Google Photos was launched in 2015 with the aim of making it easy for people to upload, back up, and search through thousands of images on smartphones. From June 1, 2021, any images uploaded will be within the limits of a 15 GB storage imposed by the company.
Anyone who gets pictures uploaded beyond that limit will pay for the extra space usage. Extra spaces will be provided through Google’s One Cloud service. 100 GB of storage will start at $1.99 for each user.
It appears that billions of users of this feature had relaxed because Google promised initially that it will exist forever free. Now, many of these people feel betrayed by the impending actions of the company. They are angry because a taste of the feature had given them the liberty to store their pictures on Google Cloud and access them from anywhere with ease. Some people have been quoting the statement issued by the company in 2015, saying that the service will remain the way it is forever.
The change will bring with it some details worth noting. For example, if a user has 15 thousand photos uploaded between now and June 1, 2021, these won’t count toward the 15 GB storage limit. Google also assures that about 80 percent of people using this service will have enough space to make use of for about three years to come.
Another benefit is that those in possession of Pixel phones will still enjoy free unlimited storage of photos past the 2021 date. Still, some complained that this change is coming from a tech company that has grown too big and powerful.
