It has a large 6.3-inch, 18.5:9 display with a notch and an impressive selfies snapper. The Google Pixel 2 XL, on the other hand, is another great device that was introduced by Google in 2024 with awesome features and hardware. Are you thinking of upgrading to the latest phone? Google Pixel 3 XL VS Google Pixel 2 XL – Design Comparison

The Google Pixel 3 XL still maintains the same modern design with the Pixel 2 XL.
They are both built with Glass both on the back and front and they also feature an Aluminium frame as well.  The Google Pixel 3 XL measures 158 x 76.7 x 7.9 mm in dimensions and weight 184 gram, while the Google Pixel 2 XL measures 157.9 x 76.7 x 7.9 mm in dimensions and weight 175 gram in weight.  The upgrade here is the IP68 rating on the Pixel 3 XL which is up to 1.5m for 30 mins in water while the Pixel 2 XL has an IP67 rating which is up to 1m for 30 mins deep in water making both phones dust and water resistant.

On the display, the Google Pixel 3 XL has a screen size of 6.3 inches with a notch under P-OLED capacitive touchscreen with a screen resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels and 523 PPI density. The screen is covered with a corning gorilla glass 5 and it’s capable of HDR content. The Google Pixel 2 XL also has a large screen size of 6.0 inches under P-OLED capacitive touchscreen with screen resolution of 1440 x 2880 pixels and 538 PPI density.
The phone is also covered by corning gorilla glass 5 and it has Always-on display as well.
The differences here is the higher screen to body ratio of 82.8% on the Pixel 3 XL while the Pixel 2 XL has 76.4% screen-to-body ratio and it’s only the Pixel 3 XL that supports the HDR display.

On the camera, both phones have s similar camera on the back that consists of 12.2 MP. The main camera features Dual-LED flash, Auto-HDR, panorama and they also shoot 4K videos as well. On the front, the Google Pixel 3 XL has a dual front camera of 8 MP with f/1.8, 28mm (wide), PDAF and additional 8 MP with f/2.2, and 19mm (ultrawide) features. The front camera features Auto-HDR, while the single front camera of 8 MP on the Google Pixel 2 XL only feature HDR.

The Google Pixel 3 XL is powered by Android 9.1 Pie OS with Qualcomm SDM845 Snapdragon 845 chipset and Andreno 630 GPU, whereas the Google Pixel 2 XL is powered by Android 8.1 Oreo OS upgradable to Android Pie with Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 chipset and Andreno 540 GPU. Both phones do not support headphones Jack instead you will get USB 3.1, Type-C 1.0 and other regulars. On the memory, they have 4GB of RAM with 64GB or 128GB of inbuilt memory which does not support micro SD card.

The Google Pixel 3 XL has a nonremovable battery capacity of 3430 mAh while the Google Pixel 2 XL has a nonremovable battery capacity of 3520 mAh. Both devices support fast charging technology while the Pixel 3 XL is the only one that supports wireless charging technology. On the price, the Google Pixel 3 XL will cost 960 EUR while the Google Pixel 2 XL will sell at a price of 870 EUR.

Our Verdict

If you already have the Google Pixel 2 XL there is no need to upgrade because the update to Android Pie is already available for the Google Pixel 2 XL and they also have similar design and features. The only difference is the reduction of bezels on the Pixel 3 XL, the IP68 rating, wireless charging technology. This is not massive and considering the gap in price, the Pixel 2 XL is still a great phone to buy.
