How Can I Report Scammers, Creeps On Discord?

Since Discord began to exist, it has transformed into one of the well-known texts and voice chat tools for gaming.

This development came with its own disadvantages, as the number of creeps, hackers, scammers and other kinds of users who send unpleasant messages that no one likes to welcome have increased as well.

Luckily, it is simple to report messages and users to Discord’s Trust & Safety team, who are amazing when it comes to getting rid of all that on your behalf. Lets get right into it.

How Can I Report Servers Or Users To Discord?

For the Trust & Safety team to check the undesirable messages and confirm if it requires corrective action, some things need to be done. Reporting is like reporting harassment, or a user that is contemplating harming himself or herself, or even whole servers of unpalatable characters.

1. Make Sure Whatever You Are Reporting Does Not Violate Discord’s Community Guidelines

Do not report something or someone who has not violated community guidelines. It is not just bad form, but it is also considered an harassment and can lead to you getting punished.

Activities And Kinds Of Messages That Discord’s Moderators Will Not Condone?

  1. Harassment
  2. Spam messages
  3. Violation of IP rights.
  4. Promoting suicide.
  5. Sharing viruses.
  6. Threatening other users.
  7. Sharing pictures depicting animal cruelty.

If you receive a message that has to do with any of the above, reach out to the moderators of the server that you are on before anything else. By so doing, they will take action, and that could mean speaking with the user, kicking the user, or banning the user from the server.

It is also possible to mute or block the person disturbing you, so their messages will not be visible any longer.

If you choose to report the message, get that done before deleting it because you have to grab some info from it before anything else.

We agree, no one wants to see the nasty stuff that was sent but it is necessary to see it as quickly as possible to note the IDs. As soon as reporting is done, you can get rid of the message.

2. Enable Developer Mode And Find The Relevant ID Codes

As an iOS user of Discord, you can just hold your finger on top of the message and tap the red “report” option that becomes visible. Be very careful not to mistakenly tap report until confirmation has been carried out.

On the web application, desktop, and Android applications, you have to gather some info before filing any report.

  1. Before anything else, go to Settings, through the gear-shaped icon close to your display name in the bottom left-hand corner. Then choose the Appearance tab, swipe to the bottom to reach the Advanced section, and ensure the switch close to Developer Mode is toggled.
  2. After that, you need 3 ID codes, the ones for the User, the Message and channel, and for the Server.
  3.  To have access to the User ID, head to the message in question, right-tap on the User’s name (or long-press on Android), and choose Copy ID. Have this pasted into a text file or note, and have it labelled as “User ID” because you will need it later. Even if the user alters his or her name, this ID will still recognize them.
  4. Then right-tap (or long-press on Android) on the message text itself. Hit “Copy ID” as in earlier, and ensure it is saved with the “Message and channel ID” tag because you can use it later when you make a report.
  5. Now, head to the icon for the Server on the left side of the display (or the User’s profile photo if its a direct message), right-tap (or long-press) on that, and tap “Copy ID” and have it saved as “Server ID”
  6. The moment to take all that information straight to the Discord Trust & Safety Team’s reporting page is now. Type in your email address that you used when your registration for Discord happened, choose the kind of report when the “Report Type” is visible and ensure the remaining information is filled in. This includes a proper description of what happened, a subject and the 3 ID Codes that you have gotten. Tap “Report” and the message will reach the Discord team for them to handle.

If You Wish To Retract Your Report?

If you feel the message was was not over the line, or if you mistakenly tapped report on iOS, it is simple to take it back. Go to Discord’s Twitter page, send them a direct message, and break down the incident.

They will require the email linked to your Discord account, which will aid the support member to get rid of your report.

Do not forget that sending wrong reports on Discord is violating its Terms of Service, so if you mistakenly send one, speak to their support as soon as possible. They mostly reply within some minutes so you will not have to wait.
