NFC also known as Near Field Connection has been around for years. Not all smartphones have this feature, only the high-end devices including the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. But before we figure out how to disable NFC. Let’s find out what NFC is and what it does.

What Is NFC?

According to Wikipedia “Near-field communication (NFC) is a set of communication protocols that enables two electronic devices, one of which is usually a portable device such as a smartphone, to establish communication by bringing them within 4 cm (1.6 in) of each other.”

You can think of NFC as an upgraded infrared connected we used to have on our phone back then. But instead of having the ability to send just media files like pictures, video, music etc (through Android Beam). We now use it do other kinds of stuff, unlike the infrared connection that could only transfer files. NFC can be used to pay for good and services through Samsung Pay, Apple Pay, Android Pay and any other payment system that uses NFC.

NFC transfers data and information using radio frequencies. And just like every other wireless signal out there like Bluetooth, WiFi and the rest that uses radio frequency. It is bound to take up your battery when turned on. Whether or not it is in use. Given that NFC is mostly used to transfer just files that Bluetooth and Wifi(Through Xender, Flashshare etc) can do. I see no reason why it Should be kept on.

However, like I said earlier. It can also be used to pay for goods and services using Android Pay, Samsung Pay, and Apple Pay just to name a few. But All these payment systems can only be found in just a few countries which makes the NFC somewhat ineffective. Things like these may be why it is best to disable NFC on your Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus.

How To Disable NFC On Galaxy S9 And S9 Plus

● Make sure your phone is Turned On.

● Navigate To the Settings Menu and Click On Connections.

● Select NFC and Payment.

● Toggle NFC To Off.

● That’s it. NFC is Off.

If you ever want to turn it on at any time just go to Settings >> NFC and Payment >> Toggle It On.

Note – Anytime the NFC is turned on, you would see the N sign at the top of your screen just like the Bluetooth, WiFi or Mobile Hotspot sign.
