Rumors that Huawei has postponed the release of its first foldable smartphone, the Mate X till September have surfaced online. However, insiders have revealed that this isn’t true.
The Huawei Mate X is the first foldable phone by the company and it was announced at a pre-MWC 2019 event in Barcelona. The Mate X, unlike its rival, the Galaxy Fold, folds outwards and not inwards. At the event where the device was launched, Huawei announced that the phone will hit the market by the middle of the year.
A few weeks ago, the phone was listed on the official online store and according to the listing, the phone will be available by June. Samsung, on the other hand, already sent out review units to reviewers. However, just a few days later, there were reports of damaged displays.
The rumors might have surfaced due to the display issues with the Galaxy Fold, maybe the company wanted to carry out more tests before the device is finally released to the public. However, insiders have revealed Huawei will be sticking to its original release schedule.
The display on the Huawei Mate X is a large 8” flexible display with a 2480 x 2200 resolution. When it folds, the display transforms into a 6.6-inch display on one side and a 6.38” display on the other side. It is powered by the Kirin 980 chipset and it also comes with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of expandable storage.
Due to the foldable design of the Mate X, the phone sports a triple camera setup (40MP + 16MP + 8MP) which can also double as its front-facing cameras. Inside the phone is the Balong 5000 modem which allows it to support 5G networks. The phone also comes with a 4,500mAh battery with support for 55W fast-charging technology.
Huawei has set the price of the Mate X to start at €2299 (~$2607).
