Huawei Mate 40 series may come with a new Side-Touch camera interface feature

We are gradually getting closer to that time of the year again when we get to see many flagships get launched. One flagship that is highly anticipated is the Huawei Mate 40 series, and so far, we have seen many rumors and reports telling us what the phone will look like and the features it will pack. However, there has been a recent report that suggests that the Mate 40 series will come with a new Side-Touch interface for its camera system.

Back in July last year, the Chinese company, Huawei filed a new design patent with CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration). This patent was published a few hours ago, and it comes with ten pictures. From these images, we can see a new Side-Touch camera interface. Included in this interface are a shutter button and other necessary functions like flash settings, white balance, camera mode, and more.

This interface which is also capable of zoom can be accessed on either side of the curved screen. It can also be used to access the gallery and it also houses an HDR icon.

Huawei probably made this new interface to be able to incorporate all the necessary functions on the side. With this, users can get a non-intrusive and clear view of the frame.

We can also spot a dual-camera setup on the front of the device from the images. The rear, however, doesn’t show any cameras. There isn’t any visible camera module on the backside of the phone and this may suggest that the phone will feature a disappearing image lens technology similar to the OnePlus Concept One smartphone. That, however, seems pretty unlikely for now.

It is possible the phone in the patent is the Huawei Mate 40 series which we expect Huawei to unveil in the next three to four months. There have been several reports in the past that have suggested a ring touch interface around the round camera module on the backside of the phone. This might mean that Huawei just filed the patent as an attempt in covering all bases. But what do you think? Let us know via the comments below.
