Kirin processors will remain exclusive to Huawei and Honor

Huawei is one of the largest manufacturers in the world today. On most of its devices, it uses HiSilicon Kirin processors, exclusive of the brand. Asked if there is interest in sharing its platforms with other brands, the company is transparent in saying no, during the Huawei Global Analyst Conference in Shanghai.

The company explains that this choice is a simple matter. Because they manufacture Kirin for their architecture, they have the freedom to adopt the chips and components for each situation, and they can make refinements using their EMUI interface, which comes with their factory appliances.

HiSilicon is generally extremely powerful, and this polishing with the software only increases the processing power of smartphones. That’s why the company should not share its platforms with other brands, which makes sense. It is worth remembering that Huawei occasionally uses processors from Qualcomm and MediaTek in their products, but it is rare.

Honor 6A, from Huawei, uses Snapdragon 430.

The Kirin 970 is currently the most powerful of the brand and is present in several smartphones of the company, such as Huawei P20 and P20 ProMate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, and in the recently announced Huawei Honor 10. The other P20 line, the P20 Lite, uses Kirin 659 processor, which is also 64-bit and has eight cores, but being an intermediate chipset is weaker than the 970.

This year the Kirin 980 will give the faces, as we saw in a benchmark recently, being used in Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, which are expected to be announced in the coming months. Also expected is a new intermediate chip, successor to the 659, but no information on it or on which smartphone it will come shipped has been leaked so far.
