The Koobee S506m has finally been launched by the company as the device popped up on the company’s website. This is coming after several months of leaks about the device.
The S506m was introduced as an entry-level smartphone after the F2 and F2 Plus flagships were released weeks ago. Nonetheless, the S506m is equipped with the trending 18:9 aspect ratio screen and Face ID.
Design
The device was made from Plastic as expected and the photos we saw on TENAA was actually correct. Koobee is known for the design of its devices, and the S506m looks inviting as well.
There’s no rear fingerprint scanner here, you have to depend on the Face ID. It has a rear loudspeaker at the bottom corner. It measures 8.5mm in thickness and weighs just 160g overall. It’s available in Purple and Champagne colors.
Display
Just like on the F2, the S506m sports the trending 18:9 aspect ratio screen. This eliminates a lot of bezels giving you a wider and taller overall display. However, the top and bottom bezels are still a little thick.
The 5.5-inch HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen is absolutely stunning, it boasts of 1440 x 720 pixels in resolution and 293 pixel per inch density. The screen stretches up to 75% screen-to-body ratio with the 2.5D curved glass on top.
Hardware and Software
Running the race underneath, is the MediaTek MT6739 chip, this was built on an older 28nm process node. It has 4-cores of processor which clocks at a smooth 1.5GHz. While the PowerVR GE8100 graphics processor clocks at 570 MHz.
There are two versions of the device in terms of RAM and storage space. There’s a standard variant with 32GB storage and 3GB RAM, while the cheaper variant has 16GB storage and 2GB RAM. The Koobee S506m runs on an older Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Dido OS 7.6.
Camera
The smartphone features an 8MP rear camera, this has f/2.0 aperture and comes with a LED flash. While the 5MP selfie camera supports Face ID and takes AI-enhanced selfies.
Battery
Powering the Koobee S506m is a 2200mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery with no fast charging technology. Without the fast charging feature, charging the battery from 0% to 100% might take up to 2.4 hours.
