Oppo A71 (2018) – Review
Smartphone company Oppo are known for releasing affordable devices with good value for money. Their update to the A71 smartphone released in September last year has been announced. The Oppo A71 (2018) is available for pre-order according to the company’s website. The phone was also listed on Amazon, which is weird because it will make a debut at the MWC. The company also ditched the Mediatek chipset, opting for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 this time around.
Design
I don’t think any changes were made to the design, it looks exactly the same with last year’s version. A simple design as the device is covered in aluminum, with a visible Oppo logo. There’s no fingerprint scanner again on the device, which is totally disappointing
Most midrange smartphones now comes with the innovative fingerprint sensor, so Oppo really let down. It also boasts of its popular slim body, measuring 7.6 mm in thickness and available in Black and Gold colors. The A71 (2018) is also comfortable to hold and light, weighing just 137g.
Display
There are no reduction in bezels here, which is far from what i expect in 2023. It has 3 navigation bezels at the bottom bezel, while the selfie camera and sensor at the front. The 5.2-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen is the same screen on its predecessor.

The screen boasts of 720 x 1280 pixels in resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio and 282 pixel per inch density. Reaching a 68.2% screen-to-body ratio, which is exactly the same with last year’s version. The screen is pretty impressive and would delivery amazing visuals just like other midrange smartphones.
Hardware and Software
The brain behind the device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chip, which is one of the major changes here. The Octa-core processor reaches a processing speed of 1.8 GHz making it more faster than its predecessor. I was thinking Oppo focused more on the performance until i noticed it has just 2GB RAM space. Which is a downgrade from the 3GB RAM on last year’s version.
The graphics processing unit is now the Adreno 506 processor instead of the Mali. The A71 (2018) comes with a standard 16GB internal storage space upgradeable to 256GB. Oppo A71 (2018) runs on Android 7.1 Nougat operating system with Color OS 3.2 skin on top.
Camera
It sports a rear 13MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture with LED flash by the side. Features on the camera includes phase detection autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, panorama and others. At the front, there’s a 5MP selfie shooter with f/2.4 aperture and no front flash in sight. No differences here, so its official this 2018 version is all about the performance though.
Battery
Oppo A71 (2018) houses a 3000mAh Li-Ion battery that is Non-removable. It doesn’t have the fast charging feature, so it will take long to charge up as usual.
