Redmi could launch a Redmi 9 variant as a Poco M2 series phone

Xiaomi officially launched the Xiaomi Redmi 9 in China today. The phone has been launched in other countries like Malaysia and Spain in the past few days. Up next is India, given the country is one of Xiaomi’s major markets. A few weeks ago, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) had released certification of two model numbers that belong to the Xiaomi Redmi 9 phone. Interestingly, according to the TUV certification, one variant of the Redmi 9 may be launched as a POCO phone.

From this screenshot taken from the BIS website, we can see that the Indian authority has two model numbers approved and they include- M2004J19I and M2004J19PI. We saw these Redmi 9 model numbers along with M2004J19AG (Europe variant), M2004J19C (China variant), and M2004J19G (global) on Bluetooth SIG body back in May.

According to the BIS listing, Xiaomi will launch the M2004J19I and M2004J19PI in India. We also spotted the model numbers on TUV Rheinland certification. According to the listing, M2004J19G, M2004J19I, M2004J19C, and M2004J19AG are the model numbers of Redmi branded phones. The M2004J19PI, however, is a POCO phone.

What this means is that the phone may be a variant of the Redmi 9 but it will feature POCO branding. As such, the phone might be launched as the most affordable POCO phone. Even more, the phone could be launched in the POCO M2 series.

We are a few weeks away from the next POCO phone launch in India. It is possible that the M2004J19PI variant of the Redmi Note 9 will be launched as the POCO M2 or M2 Pro.
