Almost all the smartphones on the market today feature large displays. This is as a result of the demand as most users prefer phones with larger screens over phones with smaller displays. This doesn’t apply to everyone, however, as there are people who would go for a smaller phone over a larger one with a larger display as it would fit better into their pockets.
Xiaomi is currently considering a return to the production of smartphones with small displays and it plans to do this under the Redmi brand. This was disclosed from a post shared by Xiaomi’s Redmi product director, Wang Teng Thomas on Weibo. According to the company executive, Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro is the only notable smartphone available with a small display.
He also hinted via the post that Xiaomi is currently weighing the demand for smartphones with small displays, but the company hasn’t taken a decision yet. He also added via the post that if a smartphone with a smaller size was made, compromises will have to be made in terms of features as there wouldn’t be enough space to fit in a compact body.
For now, it would be quite difficult to predict if there would be a high demand for a small screen phone if it was available. However, with the knowledge of the high demand for powerful smartphones capable of handling heavy gaming and video streaming, small phones just may not do so well.
