Recall that we reported that the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) was released alongside the Samsung Galaxy A5 at the concluded CES 2017 event on the 5th of January in Las Vegas.

We shall however be taking a look at the Galaxy A5 (2017) birth brother, the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017).

The Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) is the mid-range and cheaper device of the duo that was released at the CES 2017.
DESIGN
The 2017 version of the Galaxy A3 is quite similar, design-wise, to its predecessor, the A3 (2016) by sporting the same dimension 135.4 x 66.2 x 7.9 mm. This device weighs 135 grams, just 3 grams heavier than the 2016 edition.
The front view reveals the display screen. The secondary speaker, the proximity sensor and the selfie camera are all located at the top of the screen. Below the screen is the customary conspicuous home button which doubles as a fingerprint scanner.
On the left side of the A3 (2017) are the volume adjustment keys. The right side surprisingly, houses the primary loudspeaker as well as the power/lock button.
The 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone and USB type-C charging port can be seen at the bottom. The primary camera and LED flash are, of course, housed at the rear of the Galaxy A3 (2017).
Another interesting factor about the Ae (2017) design is the location of the SIM tray. As seen in the image above, the petite SIM tray is discreetly and beautifully embedded on the device top.
DISPLAY
The screen of the Galaxy A3 (2017) is a 4.71-inch super AMOLED display. The display is a High Definition (HD) kind of display. The resolution of the almost 5-inch screen is 1,280 x 720 pixels and with a massive pixel density of 331 pixels-per-inch. The screen is also protected by the Gorilla Glass 4.
PROCESSOR & OS
The Galaxy A3 (2017) comes out of the box with Android Marshmallow v6.0.1 together with Samsung-owned TouchWiz interface.
The midrange device is powered by a Exynos 7870 Octa-core processor which has a frequency/speed of 1.6 GHz. Handling graphical processes is a Mali-T830 MP2 GPU with 2GB of RAM, which sadly, only 481 MB of RAM is available for usage on unboxing.
Also, internal memory is pegged at 16GB. Likewise, only 9.8GB is available for use.
CAMERA
Speaking about the rear camera, Samsung maintained the 13MP camera which was utilized on the 2016 version of the A3 on the Galaxy A3 (2017).
The selfie camera is however different from the previous version as at 8MP, it is 3MP better than its predecessor. Both snappers have a f/1.9 aperture.
BATTERY
This device is kept alive by a rather small (could have been bigger and better) 2,350mAh battery pack. The battery is non-removable and there is no information as to whether the device fast charges or not.
CONCLUSION
The Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) is an exquisite and finely built mid-range smartphone. The device has great rear and selfie camera as well as a fingerprint scanner. And yeah, this device is also waterproof. It however has some downsides like the false 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory of which only 418MB and 9.8GB are available for usage. The 2,350mAh battery may also not be enough to take the device through long hours of usage.
