SOLO ASPIRE M REVIEW

Read the SOLO Aspire M Review

SOLO Mobile is a digital content and smartphone company that has its focus on providing the best and affordable smartphone to customers and smartphone lovers in the African market. SOLO Mobile was formed by a Nigerian, Tayo Ogundipe, who was a former senior global executive with HTC and Sony Ericsson.

SOLO has quite a number of smartphones in their array. But the SOLO Aspire M is the focus of this article. We shall be taking a look at what makes up the midrange device, things the Aspire M can & can’t do, amongst others.

So…the SOLO Aspire M Review.

DESIGN & DISPLAY

SOLO Aspire M review

The SOLO Aspire M is no doubt a good-looking device. Despite having a plastic body, the device, somehow, manages to resonate a premium look. The 5-inch display screen of the Aspire M fits perfectly onto its 144.3 x 73.1 x 9.8 mm dimension. Not too big, not too bulky.

Sadly, the screen resolution is not up to par. A 540 x 960 pixels resolution on an IPS display will have low/average image and colour reproduction.

If you decide to purchase the SOLO Aspire M, you’d have to choose either the Soft Gold variant of the device or the Warm Silver.

PROCESSOR & OS

SOLO used the MediaTek MTK6580 Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor on the SOLO Aspire M. This processor is a stable processor and it handles basic functions of a smartphone smoothly and flawless. The 1GB of RAM, though small, should also handle multitasking without clogs.

In-built internal memory is sized 8GB and is expandable to 32GB via an external storage (micro SD card). This means more room for your multimedia files and other documents.

Governing the SOLO Aspire M is an Android v5.1 Lollipop.

CAMERA

The 5MP camera at the rear has a LED flash (beneath it) and autofocus capability. You want to know if the device will take Kodak or Nikon-quality kind of pictures? Well, it won’t! But it can manage to take some cool pics and with filter supplementation and fine-tuning, you will have Kodak-like camera pictures.

On selfie duties is a 2MP snapper which also can produce average pictures that you can fine-tune with filters.

BATTERY

The SOLO Aspire M stays alive through the power the 1,800mAh battery supplies. Given the intensive usage of smartphones nowadays, this battery is definitely not enough juice for the average Nigerian/African.

Good news however is that the battery is removable. So, you can purchase multiple batteries or simply get a powerbank. There’s no Quick charge technology on the SOLO Aspire M. I see no need for a Quick charge technology though. The battery is of little capacity and shouldn’t take long to charge fully.

CONCLUSION

SOLO Aspire M is an affordable mid-range device that has amazing features. A large 5 inch display, 1GB RAM and 5MP camera. That’s not all, the SOLO Music/SOLO View on the Aspire M gives you unlimited access to over 20,000 songs and movies. There’s even a way to buy the SOLO Aspire M for N4,150 only!.
