Stripping the ingenuity of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro

The new Huawei Mate 20 pro can only be rated as a monster if we are talking about phone biometrics. The phone spots a 3D sensing front camera that work effectively like Apple’s True Depth cam and also features an in-display fingerprint reader. This puts it alongside the Xiaomi’sMI 8 EE to be amongst the first phone to feature both technologies.

 

While Samsung Galaxy S10 is already promising us the latest Qualcomm’s second ultrasonic fingerprint readers which have already been announced, for the time being, the Mate 20 pro is easily the one of the best when it comes to biometrics out there. There are so many information available on the internet on the inner workings of the in-screen fingerprint readers which seems to be the trend with the latest flagship phones out, a simple search would suffice the answer.

 

However, for all its fanciness, it has been found wanting for being somewhat slower than the capacitive scanners that are installed on home buttons and the rear side of the phones. It is also a bit difficult to use and takes a little bit of time to masters. The complexity of knowing how much force to apply on the display to register one’s fingerprint makes the entire process cumbersome and diminutive of the whole efficiency of fingerprint technology. However in light of the quest for an all screen phone, an in-screen fingerprint reader seems to be the way to go regardless of its current flaws which we are sure would be worked out in time.

 

The in-screen fingerprint scanner used in the Huawei Mate 20 pro is made by Gudix which is responsible for the in-screen fingerprint scanners spotted on most current phones including the new OnePlus 6T. The fingerprint readers are of optical variety which is basically under screen rather than in-display.
