Chinese company Sugar released the Sugar Y8 Max earlier this month with a stunning display and dual rear camera. The Max on the device’s name was because of the massive 4000mAh battery powering it up.
The company makes the most affordable smartphones with quality specs and cute colors as well. Whenever you hear the name ‘Sugar’, what comes to your mind? A sweet little something right? Well, lets see how sweet the Sugar Y8 Max is now, shall we?
Design
Made completely from Metal, the Y8 Max is absolutely stunning and a beauty to behold. It sports a rear fingerprint scanner which is very visible, the Sugar inscription is at the lower part. Oh, there’s a rear loudspeaker just underneath the Sugar inscription. The dual rear camera definitely adds to the beauty of this device, both sitting in a horizontal position at the top left corner.
Beside both shooters is the LED flash which sums up the features at the back. The ring/silent button is present at the right side, while volume keys and power button are at the left. Additionally, it measures, 9.3 mm in thickness which is due to the massive battery. Overall, it weighs 170g and available in Gold and Black colors.
Display
It’s bezel-less to some extent, the bottom bezel didn’t have the ‘Sugar’ inscription this time around which is totally weird. The top bezel houses the usual features like the selfie camera, ambient light sensor and speaker grille.
The 5.45-inch HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen dishes out a curved display and boasts of 1440 x 720 pixels in resolution. The screen has 295 pixel per inch density and a 2.5D curved glass protecting it, offering scratch resistant. Furthermore, the screen to body ratio stands at 71.24%.
Hardware and Software
Behind the beauty is the Snapdragon 425 MSM8917 chip from Qualcomm with 4-cores of processor. The processor reaches a clock speed of 1.4 GHz, has a 28nm LP process technology and 64-bit CPU architecture. In terms of graphics, the Adreno 308 processing unit from Qualcomm is in control, reaching a speed of 500MHz.
Multitask with 2GB of RAM space on the Y8 Max, the RAM reaches a memory speed of 667MHz. There’s 16GB internal storage space available for all files, movies and games and upgradeable up to 128GB. To upgrade, you’ll need to insert the memory card in the SIM 2 slot. The Y8 Max runs smoothly on Android 7.1 Nougat operating system with modified UI.
Camera
The dual rear 8MP + 2MP camera with f/2.0 aperture captures 3K resolution images. Disappointingly, images taken with the Y8 Max could boast of only 3264 x 2448 pixels in dimension. It comes with a LED flash for bright photographs in low light environments. Take selfies with the 5MP front camera and record HD videos of 720 pixels at 30 frames per second.
Battery
Powering the Sugar Y8 Max up is a 4000mAh Non-removable Li-Po battery with fast charging technology support. Charging up the battery from 0% to 100% will take more than 3 hours even with the feature.
