Tecno Camon X VS iTel S42 – Specs Comparison. iTel has now joined the bezel-less trend with the release of the itel S42. Which is their first bezel-less smartphone. As at 2017, iTel was Africa number one selling “phone” company. Phone in general, not in reference to smartphones. iTel best selling phones are “the feature phones”. So it’s good to see the company, trying to make a name in the smartphone line. The iTel S42 features some good specifications for a mid-range smartphone. And will be going against the latest trending self-acclaimed “king of selfie camera” Tecno Camon X.
Tecno Camon X VS iTel S42 – The Design
Both smartphone comes in their usual plastic metal unibody with a front glass. The 3.5mm earphone jack is at the top in the iTel S42 while at the bottom in the Tecno Camon X. Their fingerprint sensor is positioned at the back towards the top. While the Tecno brand name can be seen at back below the fingerprint sensor. That of iTel is placed at the bottom in the iTel S42. The Tecno Camon X measures 7.8mm thin while the iTel S42 measures 8.25mm thin.
The rear camera and LED flash of the iTel S42 is in a vertical position at the top-left corner. While in the Tecno Camon X it’s in a horizontal position at the top-left corner also. Tecno Camon X is available in Midnight Black, City Blues and Champagne Gold body colors. While Black and Champagne is the only body color available to iTel S42. Which is rather bad in my opinion. Nothing beats having a variety of fancy colors to choose from.
Tecno Camon X VS iTel S42 – The Display
iTel impressed with the display of the iTel S42. It features a 5.65 HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1440 pixel and 285 ppi density. While the Tecno Camon X features a 6.0 HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1440 and 275 ppi density. Surprising to see iTel S42 have better ppi density. This means the iTel S42 will display quality images and fonts than the Tecno Camon X.

Both device features 18:9 aspect ratio. And with a 75% screen-to-body ratio, the iTel S42 sports bezel-less. Although significant bezels can still be seen around the top and bottom. The Camon X features a 81% screen-to-body ratio. Both the Camon X and iTel S42 screen are protected by Corning gorilla glass.
Tecno Camon X VS iTel S42 – The Camera
The Camon X comes with a 16MP rear camera with quad-ring LED flash and a 20MP front camera with LED flash and Face ID technology. While the iTel S42 sports a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 13MP front camera with LED flash. Obviously, the self-acclaimed king of selfie wins in this category.

Tecno Camon X VS iTel S42 – Hardware and Software
The hardware of the iTel S42 is really a let down. iTel needs to work on their chipset and processor. Hard to see a mid-range smartphone powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset with Quad-core 1.4GHz processor. The clock size is just too poor in my opinion. Tecno Camon X comes with a MediaTek HelioP23 chipset with Octa-core 2.0GHz processor.
The iTel S42 runs on Android 8.0 Oreo. While Android 8.1 Oreo is available to Tecno Camon X. Both phone features a 3GB RAM size. And also the same 16GB ROM size that is expandable to 128GB using the microSD.
Tecno Camon X VS iTel S42 – The Battery
iTel S42 with a rather small non-removable 3,000 mAh Li-Po battery capacity. And offers no fast charge system. The Tecno Camon X has a better battery capacity with fast charging. It comes with a non-removable 3,750 mAh Li-lon battery capacity.
Tecno Camon X VS iTel S42 – The Price
Tecno Camon X is sold for about $165 (N58,000) while iTel S42 is available at about $130 (N45,500). The iTel S42 is a big disappointment to me. And isn’t worth having in my opinion. It offers a slow hardware set-up, even with its 3GB RAM size. You will have a hard time multitasking on the device. The Tecno Camon X is more worthy of having between the two smartphones.
