UMIDIGI’s new smartphone; the UMIDIGI Z2 looks exactly like the Huawei P20 and it also features a triple rear camera. But it’s not just about taking up the design of another smartphone, what about its specifications. Can the UMIDIGI Z2 really challenge the Huawei P20? A comparison test between both smartphones will enlighten us on that.
UMIDIGI Z2 VS Huawei P20 – The Design
Both the UMIDIGI Z2 and Huawei P20 comes in a front and rear glass with aluminum frame. The UMIDIGI Z2 features gradient twilight color, which reflects light so perfectly like the Huawei P20. The fingerprint sensor of the UMIDIGI Z2 is rear mounted while that of the Huawei P20 is mounted inside its home button. They both sports a dual rear camera, which is aligned in a vertical direction. On the Huawei P20, the dual rear camera is at the top left corner while on the UMIDIGI Z2, the dual rear camera is at the top middle.
UMIDIGI really didn’t do enough justice in imitating the design of the Huawei P20. I guess they just want it to look similar and not manufacture an exact look. The UMIDIGI Z2 is available in three body colors option; Twilight, Phantom and Black colors. While the Huawei P20 is also available in Twilight and Black body colors plus Midnight Blue and Pink Gold colors. The Huawei P20 will feel light to handle, as it weighs 165 grams and measures 7.7mm in thickness. While the UMIDIGI Z2 weighs 165 grams and measures 8.3mm thick.

UMIDIGI Z2 VS Huawei P20 – The Display
The top-notch display on the UMIDIGI Z2 is longer than the one found on the Huawei P20. Surprisingly the UMIDIGI Z2 did challenge the Huawei P20 in the display department. The Huawei P20 features a 5.8 inch LTPS IPS LCD touchscreen, an 80.4% screen-to-body ratio, 1080 x 2240 pixels resolution, an 18.7:9 aspect ratio and 429 PPI density. While the UMIDIGI Z2 features a 6.21 inch FHD+ IPS LCD touchscreen, an 85% screen-to-body ratio, 1080 x 2246 pixels resolution, 19:9 aspect ratio and 403 PPI density.
UMIDIGI Z2 VS Huawei P20 – The Camera
It will be difficult for the UMIDIGI Z2 to challenge the Huawei P20 in this department. The dual rear camera of the UMIDIGI Z2 features a primary 16MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture, an 8MP secondary sensor autofocus (PDAF) and dual-LED flash. While the Huawei P20 comes with superior features; a primary 12MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a secondary 20MP sensor with f/1.6 aperture, OIS, Leica optics, 2x lossless zoom, phase detection, laser autofocus and LED flash.
For the front-facing camera, the Huawei P20 sports a 24MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. While the UMIDIGI Z2 features a dual front camera consisting of a 16MP sensor and an 8MP sensor.
UMIDIGI Z2 VS Huawei P20 – Hardware and Software
Well, the hardware disappoints the UMIDIGI Z2. The smartphone comes with a mid-range chipset; MediaTek Helio P23 chipset, 8-cores processor clocked at 2.0GHz and ARM Mali G71 MP2 graphics processing unit. While on the Huawei P20, is Huawei’s most powerful chipset; the Hisilicon Kirin 970 chipset, Mali-G72 MP12 graphics processing unit and Octa-core processor.
The UMIDIGI Z2 runs on pure stock Android 8.1 Oreo. While the Huawei P20 also runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI 8.1 skin on top. The Huawei P20 comes in a 4GB memory with 128GB storage while you get a 6GB memory with 64GB storage on the UMIDIGI Z2.
UMIDIGI Z2 VS Huawei P20 – The Battery
Easy win for UMIDIGI as the UMIDIGI Z2 packs a non-removable Li-Po 4050 mAh battery while on the Huawei P20 is a non-removable Li-Po 3400 mAh battery. They both support fast battery charging, so you shouldn’t have a hard time charging them up, especially the UMIDIGI Z2.
UMIDIGI Z2 VS Huawei P20 – The Price
The UMIDIGI Z2 cost around $360 (N126,000) while the Huawei P20 cost about $793 (N277,550). The UMIDIGI Z2 comes up short in the hardware and camera departments, which are arguably the most important departments. The Huawei P20 is miles ahead of the UMIDIGI Z2.
