Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 has a lot of upgrades compared to previous generations, especially the new manual slide mechanism, which makes the OLED screen almost occupy the area on the front, up to at 93.4% with the ultra-thin bezel on all four edges.
Xiaomi is proud to be one of the smartphone pioneers in the trend of designing “non-fringe” displays with the Mi MIX range. Last week, the company launched the Mi MIX 3 generation and to achieve a larger screen area ratio than the front, the phone used a completely new manual slider mechanism. In particular, in an article published today, Xiaomi explained the design of this unique slider.
According to Xiaomi, the slider of the Mi MIX 3 has a completely different design than the traditional slider found on popular phones in the past. It is extremely small in size, 50% smaller than traditional slides. Xiaomi also said the slider design used previously was outdated and could no longer meet the needs of today’s smartphones. Challenges such as large gaps, low lifespan, and poor slippage have to be redesigned, especially due to process limitations and manufacturer details.
The slider on the Mi MIX 3 has very small gaps and the company has to continually improve its production process with its component suppliers. Therefore, the contact surface of the upper and lower casing are made very flat and tight together. In practice, this design does not affect the performance of the antenna, due to the fixed connection to the antenna through the slider, so that the unconnected area at the upper half of the contact is tight with each other. This design will help avoid warping phenomenon, looks and more uniform.
In addition, the dual slider construction also provides a better slider experience, keeping the slider structure from wobbling during use. As known, the slider on Mi MIX 3 can be customized to launch various functions such as accessing the camera, answering the phone, opening the WeChat application or any other application.
The Mi MIX 3 will start shipping on Nov. 1 with prices starting at 3299 yuan (equivalent to $473) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB of internal memory. For 8GB of RAM, users will have to spend 3599 yuan (about $516) for the 128GB memory option and 3999 yuan (~ $573) to get the 256GB.
In addition to the regular versions, Xiaomi also released Mi MIX 3 special edition called The Palace Museum Edition with prominent lion logo, 10GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory. It also costs 4999 yuan (equivalent to $717) and will start on shelves starting in November.
