The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 AI has just been launched by Xiaomi in China. The device is an updated version of the Redmi Note 5 Pro which was launched in India earlier this year.
Unlike the Indian version, the Redmi Note 5 AI has Artificial Intelligence technology and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo. That’s not all, it comes with a better rear camera and available in three variants in terms of RAM and storage space. Want to know more? Stay with me.
Design
There’s absolutely no difference here in terms of design, still sports the same Aluminum Alloy overall unibody. The dual vertical camera at the top left corner is definitely one of the highlight at the rear. The fingerprint scanner is at the usual position for easy access.
Moving further, the dual antenna lines definitely adds to the beauty of the rear. While the MI logo is at the bottom corner, when you turn over to the side, it measures 8.05mm in thickness. Overall, it’s quite comfortable to hold and operate, weighing just 181g. You can get it in Gold, Black, Blue and Rose-Gold colors.
Display
Looks like the Redmi series won’t be joining the likes of the Mix series in the notch saga. Nonetheless, the Redmi Note 5 AI is bezel-less dishing out an 18:9 aspect ratio. The bottom bezel is kinda redundant, while the top bezel houses the selfie camera, speaker grille and other sensors.
The breathtaking screen stretches up to 77.7% screen to body ratio. Speaking of screens, the 5.99-inch FHD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen is very impressive. Boasting of 1080 x 2160 pixels in resolution and 403 pixel per inch density, bringing all your movies and games to life. The screen also boasts of 1000:1 contrast ratio, 450 cd/m2 and 84% NTSC.
Hardware and Software
It ships with the same Snapdragon 636 chipset from Qualcomm, has a 64-bit CPU architecture and 8-cores of processor. The Octa-core processor reaches a speed of 1.8GHz with a 28nm process technology for a fast ride. Administrating graphics is the Qualcomm Adreno 509 graphics processor, which is in control of everything graphics.
There are three variants in terms of storage and RAM, there’s a standard version with 64GB storage and 6GB RAM. A much affordable variant comes with the same 64GB storage but just 4GB of RAM. Then there’s the much cheaper version that packs just 32GB storage and 3GB RAM. Nonetheless, the RAM space on all versions reaches a memory speed of 1333MHz. While the storage space is upgradeable up to 128GB with a memory card. The Redmi Note 5 AI runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with MIUI 9.
Camera
The 12MP + 5MP dual rear camera now has f/1.9 aperture and f/2.0 aperture respectively. The camera comes with a dual-LED flash and captures 4K resolution images. With image dimension being as high as 4000 x 3000 pixels. Furthermore, The cameras also have the Artificial Intelligence technology, with features like portrait mode, beauty mode and face unlock. The pixels on the Sony selfie camera have been reduced a bit to 13MP with face recognition technology.
Battery
Powering the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 AI is a 4000mAh non-removable Li-Po battery with fast charging technology. With the fast charging feature, it shouldn’t take more than 1.9 hours to fully charge up the battery from 0% to 100%.
