Nokia 3.1 was unveiled yesterday by HMD Global, the 3.1 is an update to Nokia’s most successful phone under HMD, the Nokia 3. The device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with Android One, for that bloatware free experience.
Although a lot of people are calling this the Nokia 3 (2018), but we might get to see a 3.2 soon. Internally, there’s an octa-core processor, 3GB RAM and 32GB storage space variant. Without further ado, meet the Nokia 3.1.
Design
The device sports an anodized metal chassis with a polycarbonate and plastic-like back like its predecessor. It has an aluminum frame as well. Just like the Nokia 2.1 we reviewed earlier, it has a vertically positioned foundation at the top middle.
This foundation houses the rear camera and the LED flash. It’s disappointing there’s no fingerprint scanner here as well, even with the device’s price tag. It measures 8.7 mm in thickness and weighs just 138.3g overall, due to its little battery capacity. It’ll be available in Blue/Copper, Black/Chrome and White/Iron color combinations.
Display
Although the screen went taller compared to its predecessor, we can’t help but wonder why the top and bottom bezel are still this thick. Even though the bottom bezel doesn’t house the three navigation buttons anymore. Nonetheless, the screen dishes out an 18:9 aspect ratio.
The 5.2-inch HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen is brilliant and sharp for a budget smartphone. It boasts of 720 x 1440 pixels in resolution and 310 pixel per inch density for stunning visuals. Even though it disappointedly stretches up to 69.4% screen-to-body ratio, there’s a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top.
Hardware and Software
The MediaTek MT6750 chip takes charge here with Octa-Core processor and 64-bit CPU architecture. The 8-Cores of processor here runs at a standard speed of 1.5GHz with 28nm process technology. The Mali-T860MP2 graphics processor handles graphics and clocks at 520MHz.
There are two versions in terms of storage and RAM, there’s a standard version with 3GB RAM and a 32GB storage space. While the cheaper variant comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage space. Both storage space are upgradeable up to 256GB using a memory card. The Nokia 3.1 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo and will receive Android P.
Camera
The 13MP rear shooter has f/2.0 aperture and captures stunning photographs. There are features to help enhance your photographs like autofocus, LED flash, touch focus and the rest. Videos of 720p can be shot @30fps, while the 8MP selfie camera has f/2.0 aperture as well.
Battery
Powering the Nokia 3.1 is a 2990mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery with fast charging technology. With the fast charging feature, charging the battery from 0% to 100% shouldn’t take up to 1.9 hours.
