AGM A7 (2017); the best affordable rugged smartphone

AGM A7 Specifications Review

The AGM is a smartphone company that has her focus and dedication towards producing rugged themed smartphones. The company has devices like the AGM X2 and the AGM A8 under her name. And the device to be reviewed here on this space, the AGM A7, is more of a downgrade of the AGM A8 smartphone which made our list of Top Rugged smartphones of 2017.

DESIGN

AGM A7

Hovering about the shape, structure and design of the AGM A7, there really isn’t much of a difference from the AGM A8. The frontal houses the secondary (selfie) camera, the device display, proximity sensor and four soft navigation keys.

The back on the other hand is where you will find the rough and tough battery cover, the bold AGM logo, loudspeaker and the rear camera and LED flash light to its right. On brief examination of the device for the first time, one may confuse the primary camera and the LED flash for a dual camera set-up. This is understandable because they have the same circumference and diameter as well as the same rectangular-shaped silver border.

AGM A7

When the battery cover of the AGM A7 is removed, the Dual SIM card ports and TF/Micro SD card port are revealed. Both SIM slots allows micro SD card only.

To sum it all up, the device appearance is a rocky and solid one. The IP68 certification also adds to its durability by providing water and dust resistance.

DISPLAY

AGM A7

The display is a small but tough 4.0 inch WVGA screen. This means that the display has a 480×800 pixels resolution. Don’t expect an ultra sharp display from this device even though it will produce images and text that are very much visible to the eye. Irrespective, images will not be as crisp as that of a 720 x 1280 pixels resoluted screen.

PROCESSOR, OS & STORAGE

Powering the AGM A7 is a Quad-core Cortex-A7 processor with a clock speed of 1.1GHz. Handling graphics is the Adreno 304 GPU and on app multitasking duty is the 2GB RAM. The Android Marshmallow v6.0 storage and battery optimization properties is also a plus.

This simply translates into efficient and judicious use of the on-board 16GB storage (which can be expanded to 32GB).

CAMERA

The shooters on this budget rugged device are not very much exciting. The rear camera is somewhat standard at 8-megapixels and the image quality is promising under low and high light due to the big LED flash.

The secondary selfie camera on the other hand is nothing to write home about. It is a low standard VGA 0.3-megapixels camera and one would begin to wonder what quality of selfie one can get from this kind of camera. Definitely of low quality and standard.

BATTERY

AGM A7

The AGM A7 comes loaded with a 2930mAh Li-Polymer battery. The device lacks Quick charge technology but the battery would take you for a day’s usage before needing to recharge.
