Amid Challenges, Facebook Tries To Woo Teens

Facebook is in a lot of trouble these days. The ongoing data breach is still haunting the biggest social media company of our time. Yet. at the very brink of this, the firm is trying to attract more teenagers world to the social network with a new video product that could tickle the teens’ funny sides.

This is being done by testing a hub for humorous meme content which it calls LOL, TechCrunch reports. Although at this point it seems the whole stuff is just an idea, it could well come to fruition sooner than we think. This is due to the fact that a spokesperson for Facebook has also confirmed that LOL is truly in the works and the management board of Facebook is discussing it.

According to the spokesperson, the company is running a small scale test and the concept is in the early stages right now, the spokesperson announced.

The success of this idea is not a problem or a challenge as Facebook already owns a photo sharing app that is already popular among tens worldwide. But these teens continue to see Snapchat as something important so they often flock there. Probably, Facebook will try to curtail that by launching the new LOL feature. At the present time, Facebook copied Snapchat features which let’s user post stories. Following that, in 2024, Facebook targeted teens by launching a short-form app called Lasso but it really didn’t gain traction.

Accordingly, this new hub that is being introduced by Facebook is expected to be divide into categories such as “for You” “Animals” “Fails” and “Pranks”. At the present time, about 100 students are testing the app to see whether it is viable.

At the moment, Facebook has not decided if the new LOL will become a standalone app or be included as a feature inside the main Facebook app.

Meanwhile, the firm is in trouble and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is thinking of imposing a record setting fine on Facebook. This fine will be bigger than the one imposed on Google in 2012. Facebook has been under investigation since March 2018 following reports about Cambridge Analytica.
