Laptop manufacturer Schenker Technologies released the XMG P507 gaming laptop about one year ago. But this oldie comes with a seventh-generation Intel CPU and some other interesting features that have made it endearing to gamers, even till date.
Design
Just weighing a little below 3kg, the XMG P507 is fairly light for a gaming notebook. The device dimensions are 385 x 271 x 29 mm which while not being the slimmest notebook out there, is quite thin for a laptop in its category.
Schenker used metal for most of the XMG P507 with some plastic. Overall, the design of this gaming laptop is nice with a good build. The chassis is made by Clevo and is really portable.
Above the 15-inch display is a 1080p webcam. This 2MP camera will suffice for video chatting and simple photo captures.
Display
The Schenker XMG P507 features a 15.6-inch 120Hz TN LED display. The maximum resolution on this display is 1920 x 1080 pixels which mean that the aspect ratio is the standard 16:9. The screen is not glossy and comes with support for Nvidia G-Sync. The combination of the high refresh rate and G-Sync support ensures that users get a seamless viewing experience on the XMG P507.
The response times of the display is fairly fast enough thanks again to the high refresh rate. Besides, when outdoors the display is bright enough.
Keyboard and Touchpad
The standard keyboard on the XMG P507 is quite comfortable for typing with the zonal RGB backlighting. The tactile feedback of the keys is good enough to have a nice typing experience. However, there are no macro keys.
The 4.25 x 2.5 inch touchpad is not bad itself, with a smooth surface that makes scrolling and swiping very easy. Beneath the touchpad is a row of two clickable buttons separated by a fingerprint scanner.
Performance
Next, we look at how this laptop performs in terms of its hardware combination. Schenker used an Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU with a high-end Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 (upgradable to GTX 1070). A DDR4 16GB RAM and 500GB of PCIe SSD complete the mix.
The quad core CPU which we’ve seen in most other gaming laptops is clocked at 2.8GHz that can reach 3.8GHz via Turbo boost. Just so you know, the laptop can alternate between the dedicated GPU and the integrated Intel HD Graphics 630 GPU for extended battery life.
Battery Life
Moving forward, this notebook comes with a 4-cell 60Whr Li-ion battery to keep the lights on when you are away from a power outlet. On a full charge the battery can last for an average of about 3 to 4 hours, which is not so bad.
Ports and Connectivity
Furthermore, the Schenker XMG P507 has a wide array of ports for connecting peripherals. This includes a HDMI port, two DisplayPorts, three USB 3.0 ports, 2 USB type-C ports, headphone and microphone jacks, an SD card slot, as well as a SIM card slot.
For wireless connections, the notebook comes with a Dual-Band Wi-Fi radio as well as a Bluetooth 4.2 radio.
Price and Availability
As with other products in the market, probably the most important question is this, “How much does it cost?” The Schenker XMG P507 will set you back for at least $2500. It is available online at most e-retail stores including the manufacturer’s website.
