Google develops “Face ID” for Android Q

Face ID has become known by Apple, after a few years, Google wants to integrate a corresponding interface in the Android operating system. So far, the numerous Android manufacturers rely on their own solutions regarding Face-Unlock, but in Android Q, a fixed interface to be integrated as a standard. The so far own “Trusted Face” of Google Smart Lock is basically useless and works only for the lock screen.

Biometric unlocking methods

As the XDA Devs can report, Google is integrating a new interface for Face-Unlock starting with Android Q, which works much like the interface for fingerprint sensors. It will therefore also be able to unlock PayPal and similar apps on the face, insofar as the manufacturer has installed appropriate sensors and the Android interface responds.

Google took a long time for this standard, now only the manufacturers have to play and supply the Android interfaces. But had already worked well with the fingerprint sensors. In addition, we expect that Face-Unlock could also become a feature of the upcoming Google Pixel 4.
