Infinix Hot S vs S2 Pro – Has it got even hotter?

The Infinix Hot S was launched last year as Infinix Mobility’s lifestyle smartphone of the year, and the phone made big hits due to its alluring design and powerful internals. Every good thing should have an even better successor, which is why Infinix Mobility is preparing to launch a better version of the Hot S, the Infinix S2 Pro very soon. In this article, I examine the differences between the Hot S and S2 Pro, depicting the upgrades the latter brings to the table.

One major difference between the Hot S and its successor is in the camera aspect; Infinix Mobility seems to have realised that the driving force behind majority of decisions to buy smartphones is based on the quality of its cameras (especially selfie cameras), and has slammed two camera sensors on the front of the S2 Pro. Check out the full comparison below.

Infinix Hot S versus S2 Pro – Device Comparison

Here is a table of contents to make it easier for you to breeze through the article. Click on any of them to jump to the content:

Display & Design

One thing I and many others like me love in the Infinix Hot S is its moderate 5.2-inch screen size, and Infinix Mobility is making a return of this in the S2 Pro. Both have an HD (1280 * 720) pixel resolution, but the Hot S’ icons are sharper at a pixel density of 320 PPI compared to the S2 Pro’s 282 PPI pixel density.

The design of the S2 Pro is very similar to that of the Hot S (which is to be expected since they are immediate siblings in the same series), but some little changes have been made. The rear camera module has been moved from within the top antenna line to below it, and its edges are more rounded. The new dual front camera setup also makes a difference in the overall look of the smartphone.

Performance & Storage

The Infinix S2 Pro has the same SoC setup as the Hot S which consists of an octa-core 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6753 processor and Mali-T720 GPU. The S2 Pro would be faster, though, thanks to its higher storage capacities and updated software.

The Infinix S2 Pro comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of ROM, an upgrade to the Hot S’ 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM. Both ROM capacities can be upgraded up to 128GB using an external microSD card.

Camera

There isn’t much difference in the camera setup present on both devices – a 13MP shooter with dual-tone LED flash above the fingerprint sensor. Move to the front, however, and things get interesting.

The Infinix S2 Pro sports a dual camera setup at the front, consisting of a 13MP wide-angle lens that has a 135-degree FOV and an 8MP standard camera. This is clearly superior to the Hot S’ 8MP front camera, so the S2 Pro wins in the camera aspect. Both come with soft flash at the front.

Battery & Charging

The battery capacity remains 3000mAh on the S2 Pro, a capacity that’s enough to take you through a full day provided you turn on the phone’s battery saving feature (from personal experience). One new thing which the S2 Pro brings in this aspect is

One new thing which the S2 Pro brings in this aspect is fast charge, which I think is vital since I have to charge my Hot S for over two hours to get a full charge.

Connectivity

Not a few people criticised Infinix Mobility for making the SIM slot on the Hot S a hybrid one, so it’s a relief that the S2 Pro comes with a standard dual micro-SIM slot. Both smartphones have 4G LTE network compatibility.

Software & Hardware

The Infinix Hot S will soon be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat, but for comparison sake, both smartphones run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. The S2 Pro, however, comes with a newer version of Infinix’s custom UI, XOS version 2.1 as opposed to the Hot S’ XOS version 2.0.

Nothing has changed in the hardware aspect — the fingerprint sensor is still present below the LED flash at the rear and the microphone and speaker grills are positioned at the bottom of the phone.

So, which do you think is the best between the Infinix Hot S and S2 Pro based on our comparison above?
