Do you work in a rugged environment? Or do you want a waterproof and dust-proof smartphone? If you answered yes any of the questions above, then let me introduce you to the Uhans U300 “ruggedy baba.”
With a solid premium build and great battery, the Uhans U300 is worth every penny that it costs, and even more. Let’s take a brief look at this “uncommon” device that’ll blow you away.
Design & display
As one of the main selling points of the Uhans U300, the body is robustly built with an 1P65 waterproof and dustproof protection. However, for the extra protection and durability that you get, there is a trade-off – the Uhans U300 is a really thick smartphone at 12mm. I guess you can cope with that if you really need a rugged device or if you work in a construction site.
The weight is also noticeable as the 225 grams of the Uhans U300 can pull down your pants – just kidding. The phone is coated with a premium leather cover that makes it stand out from other smartphones.
For the display, there is a 5.5” IPS display with Full HD resolution. With the high-definition and bright display on the Uhans U300, you should have a nice visual experience and nice image quality.
Hardware, OS & Performance
The Uhans U300 packs a MediaTek chipset underneath; specifically the MT6750T with an octa-core CPU and the Mali-T860 GPU. The chipset used on this device is quite on the low-end spectrum and can become an issue while running heavy apps or games.
You have a massive 4GB of RAM on this device and internal storage capacity of 32GB. Using a microSD card, the onboard storage can be bumped up to an additional 128GB, great eh?
For software, this smartphone has the Android 6.0 Marshmallow preinstalled. This means that users get access to a rich ecosystem offering a ton of great applications.
Cameras
Rear camera resolution on the Uhans U300 is pegged at 13MP while the selfie cam is 5MP. Through software interpolation, the camera resolutions can be increased to 16MP and 8MP for the rear and front-facing cameras respectively. And lest I forget, there is a “highly-sensitive” fingerprint sensor just below the rear camera.
Battery & Connectivity
The battery on the Uhans U300 is another major selling point of the device. With the 4750mAh battery that comes with the phone, you should get about 2 days of average usage on a single charge.
The smartphone comes with the usual connectivity options including 4G connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, and even USB OTG. But the new USB type-C is missing on this device (how awful!).

Conclusion
The Uhans U300 is definitely not meant for everybody. But with the rugged nature of this device, it becomes highly desirable, especially when you consider the price – just below $200. The only drawbacks however, are found in the thickness, the choice of chipset, and the lack of a USB type-C port.
