And it looks like a segment, which they will control for a long time. But they do have serious competition from Chinese OEM company Xiaomi. The Motorola Moto G6 and Moto E5 are the two budget smartphones from Motorola this 2018. Both smartphones look very much alike but have different highlights. They also have a bigger and smaller model. The Moto G6 has a bigger model called Moto G6 Plus and a smaller model called Moto G6 Play. Same goes for the Moto E5.

The Motorola Moto G6 Plus and Moto E5 Plus will be our focus for this article. The Motorola Moto E5 Plus takes pride in its huge battery capacity that can last for more than a day usage. The Motorola Moto G6 Plus doesn’t look like a budget smartphone with its premium design. The phone features a front Corning gorilla glass 3 and back 3D curved glass with aluminum frame. While the Moto E5 Plus features a front glass with a plastic unibody. The plastic unibody of the Moto E5 Plus has an aluminum coating finish, so you won’t feel the plastic vibe. Thanks to the Moto E5 Plus’s huge battery, it weighs 196.6 grams and a bulky 9.4mm in thickness. The Moto G6 Plus with no heavy battery capacity weighs 167 grams with 8mm thickness.

The Motorola Moto G6 Plus features a home button, with the fingerprint sensor inside it. While the Moto E5 Plus features no home button, and its fingerprint sensor is embedded inside the Motorola logo at the back. The Moto G6 Plus houses a dual rear camera while the Moto E5 Plus has a single rear camera. They’re available in different body colors option. The Moto G6 Plus comes in Nimbus, Gold and Deep Indigo body colors. While the Moto E5 Plus comes in Fine Gold, Mineral Blue, Black and Flash Gray body colors. The Moto G6 Plus is splash resistant while the Moto E5 isn’t. I think it’s fair to say the Moto G6 Plus has the better design and durability.

The Motorola Moto G6 Plus features better display quality than the Moto E5 Plus. Motorola already said the G-series is bigger than the E-series, so we aren’t too surprised with their specs and features so far. The Moto G6 Plus sports a 5.9 inch IPS LCD touchscreen, with 74.4% screen-to-body ratio. The display of the Moto G6 Plus features an 18:9 aspect ratio, 1080 x 2160 pixels resolution and 409 PPI density. On the Moto E5 Plus is a 6.0 inch IPS LCD touchscreen with 76.7% screen-to-body ratio. The display of the Moto E5 Plus features an 18:9 aspect ratio, 720 x 1440 pixels resolution and 268 PPI density. The screen of both the Moto G6 Plus and Moto E5 Plus is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

The rear camera of the Moto E5 Plus features a 12MP sensor, f/2.0 aperture, phase detection and laser autofocus and LED flash. The dual rear camera of the Moto G6 Plus consists of a primary 12MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture, a secondary 5MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture, dual pixel phase detection autofocus and dual-LED dual-tone flash. While at the front of the Moto G6 Plus is an 8MP sensor, f/2.2 aperture and LED flash.

The Motorola Moto G6 Plus is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset that carries 8-cores processor clocked 2.2GHz. While powering the Moto E5 Plus is Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset that carries 4-cores clocked 1.4GHz. The total CPU clock speed of the Snapdragon 660 chipset is 2.86% faster than that of Snapdragon 425 chipset.

Both the Moto G6 Plus and Moto E5 Plus runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with no customization. They both offer two variants of memory space. On the Moto G6 Plus is a 4GB memory with either 64GB or 128GB storage and a 6GB memory with either 64GB or 128GB storage. For the Moto E5 Plus is a 2GB memory with 16GB storage and a 3GB memory with 32GB storage.
