The Motorola Moto E5 series consists of the Moto E5 Play, Moto E5, and Moto E5 Plus, just like the Moto G6 series. Although the Motorola Moto E5 Play hasn’t been released yet. For the purpose of this article, we will be looking at the Motorola Moto E5 and Motorola Moto E5 Plus. Let’s see what differentiate these two budget smartphones.

Motorola Moto E5 VS Motorola Moto E5 Plus – The Design

The design isn’t different from the two smartphones. And they look more like the Motorola Moto G6 series. The Motorola Moto E5’s body is made up of Corning Gorilla Glass front with a plastic back, which features reflective wave pattern. While the Motorola Moto E5 has Corning gorilla glass front and plastic back with no reflective wave pattern. The Motorola Moto E5 Plus is heavier and thicker than the Moto E5. Weighing 196.6 grams and measuring 9.4mm thickness is the Moto E5 Plus. While the Moto E5 weighs 174 grams and measures 9mm in thickness.

At the back of both devices is a rear mounted fingerprint sensor with a single rear camera and LED flash. They’re both available in Flash gray and Fine Gold body colors. While the Moto E5 Plus has two extra color variants; Black and Mineral Blue.

The display is virtually the same between these two smartphones except for their screen size. They both features an IPS LCD touchscreen, and the Moto E5’s screen measures 5.7 inches with 75.2% screen-to-body ratio. While the Moto E5 Plus’s screen measures 6.0 inch with 76.7% screen-to-body ratio. Their display features an 18:9 aspect ratio, 720 x 1440 pixels resolution and is protected by an unspecified version of Corning Gorilla Glass. The Moto E5 features a 282 pixels per inch density. While the Moto E5 Plus features a 268 pixels per inch density.

The Motorola Moto E5 features a rear camera with a 13MP sensor and f/2.0 aperture. At the front camera of the Moto E5 is a 5MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture. Both cameras of the Moto E5 features LED flash. The Moto E5 Plus houses a rear camera with a 12MP sensor, f/2.0 aperture and LED flash. And for selfies, you get a 5MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. The USA version of the Moto E5 Plus has an 8MP front-facing camera with a f/2.2 aperture.

I was thinking the Moto E5 Plus will house a bigger chipset than the Moto E5 but it wasn’t the case. Both the Motorola Moto E5 and E5 Plus houses Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset. The chipset carries 4-cores processor reaching a maximum speed of 1.4GHz. The Adreno 308 graphics processing unit powers the graphics of both the Moto E5 and Moto E5 Plus.

Aside from running on the same Android 8.0 Oreo, they both offer the same memory variant; 2GB memory with 16GB internal storage. While the Moto E5 Plus adds a bigger variant of 3GB memory with 32GB internal storage. They both support microSD up to 256GB storage.

This is obviously where you see the real difference between the Motorola Moto E5 and Moto E5 Plus. The Moto E5 packs a non-removable Li-lon 4000 mAh battery. While the Moto E5 Plus packs a non-removable Li-lon 5000 mAh battery. The Moto E5 supports fast battery charge called Turbo Charge 10W. While the Moto E5 Plus supports a bigger 15W Turbocharge.

The Motorola Moto E5 Plus is available for around $222 (N77,700). While the Motorola Moto E5 is available for about $175 (N61,250). The battery capacity is the major difference between the two phones. Overall, they’re both good budget phones from Motorola.
