Motorola Moto Z3 Play VS Motorola Moto Z2 Play – why you should upgrade to the Moto Z3 Play

Motorola Moto Z3 Play VS Motorola Moto Z2 Play – why you should upgrade to the Moto Z3 Play. Motorola has released a new smartphone under the Moto Z series called Motorola Moto Z3 Play. And the smartphones succeed 2017’s Motorola Moto Z2 Play. This series is one of the Motorola best series due to the fact that it supports the iconic Moto Mods. Unlike last year when they released the Moto Z2 Play and Moto Z2 Force, there’ll be no Force edition this year just the Moto Z3 Play.

The Moto Z2 Force is a high-end smartphone. So it would seem Motorola are just focusing on the mid-range/budget segment of the market. Let’s see what the new Motorola Moto Z3 Play brings to the table against the Moto Z2 Play. And if it’s worth upgrading to the Moto Z3 Play or just sticking with the Moto Z2 Play instead. Below is a detailed comparison between the Motorola Moto Z3 Play and the Moto Z2 Play.

Motorola Moto Z3 Play VS Motorola Moto Z2 Play – The Design

The design of both the Moto Z3 Play and Moto Z2 Play is somewhat similar, except for the large bezels on the Moto Z2 Play. The Motorola Z2 Play features a front glass with aluminum unibody while the Moto Z3 Play features a front and rear glass with Aluminum (6000 series) frame. The Moto Z3 Play isn’t the first Moto Z series with a rear glass design, the 2016’s Moto Z Play also features a front and rear glass. The Moto Z2 Play is available in Lunar Gray, Fine Gold, and Nimbus Blue body colors. While the Moto Z3 Play is available in only Deep Indigo body color.

One thing I personally like about the Moto Z series is how slim their smartphones are. The Moto Z2 Play measures just 6mm thickness with a weight of 145 grams. Am not sure of the measurement of the world slimmest smartphone, but the Moto Z2 Play happens to be the slimmest I have seen. The Motorola Moto Z3 Play measures 6.8mm and weighs 156 grams. The reason for the Moto Z3 Play measuring such thickness is due to its fingerprint sensor that is mounted on the side of the device. While the fingerprint sensor of the Moto Z2 Play is mounted in its home button. The Moto Z3 Play features a dual rear camera system while the Moto Z2 Play features a single rear camera. Despite being mid-rangers, the Moto Z3 Play and Z2 Play are splashes and dust resistant.

Most mid-range smartphones normally would feature an IPS LCD panel. But that’s not the case of the Moto Z series. The Moto Z2 Play packs a 5.5-inch screen size, 70.1% screen-to-body ratio, 16:9 aspect ratio, 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution and 401 PPI density. While the Moto Z3 Play packs a 6.01-inch screen size, 77.9% screen-to-body ratio, 1080 x 2160 pixels resolution, an 18:9 aspect ratio and 402 PPI density. The Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protects the screen of both the Moto Z3 Play and Z2 Play.

The camera of the Moto Z3 Play comes with improvement to that of the Moto Z2 Play. Up front, the Moto Z3 Play packs an 8MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture. And for the Moto Z2 Play is a 5MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture. The rear and front cameras of the Moto Z2 Play features dual-LED dual-tone flash while only the rear camera of the Moto Z3 Play does.
