HMD Global has done it again by announcing Nokia 8.1 mobile phone in the month of December 2018. The device has been released in Europe and Middle East on the 5th of December and will also be announced in India on the 10th of December 2018.
The device arrives with 20 MP selfie camera and a very efficient performance department, with a battery that is neither too heavy nor too light. This is an NFC smartphone, meaning it can communicate naturally with other smartphones in range.

Design and Display Nokia 8.1
Primary design in the smartphone is aluminum frame. The dimensions herein are 154.8 x 75.76 x 7.97 mm and it weighs 180 grams. It comes in black, blue, copper, and silver colors. Nokia 8.1 is not a water resistant smartphone but has face recognition and fingerprint sensor in-built.
Display type is IPS LCD capacitive multi-touch screen of 16 million colors. The screen size is 6.18 inches. Further, pixel density is 403 ppi, pixel resolution is 2246 x 1080, and aspect ratio is 18.7:9. Other display features are HDR 10, 2.5D curved glass, 81.5 screen to body ratio, and 500nits brightness.
Camera Features
At the camera department, there is dual 12 MP f/1.8; plus 13 MP f/2.2. The cameras are equipped with dual LED flash. To the front, there is another single secondary selfie lens of 20 MP of f/2.0 aperture. The video performance the device is 2160p@30fps.
Furthermore, the camera features available in the Nokia 8.1 are geotagging, OIS, touch focus, AI camera, face detection, HDR, panorama, auto focus, and more.
Hardware and Software
Android OS v9.0 Pie (Android One) runs the Nokia 8.1. In addition to that, Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 reigns supreme in the device. It comes with process technology 10nm, 64-bit architecture. Accordingly, the CPU is Octa-core 2.2 GHz Kryo 360, while the GPU is Adreno 616.
Storage Capacity and Sensors
Internal memory inside the Nokia 8.1 is in two variants of 4GB/6GB and both cannot be expanded. This is followed by a combination of 64GB/128GB internal storage that can be increased to 400GB with the use of a micro-SD card.
Sensors in the device are accelerometer, proximity, compass, ambient light, fingerprint, fingerprint, and others.
Network and Connectivity
Nokia 8.1 is able to handle 2G, 3G, and 4G and that means that it is GSM, HSPA, and LTE enabled. There are two hybrid/nano SIM card slots provided to make things work on the device.
Other connectivity options include Bluetooth v5.0, Wi-Fi, mobile hotspot, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, NFC, headphone jack, and USB v2.0 type c 1.0 reversible connector and OTG.
Battery Life in Nokia 8.1
Powering the device is a Li-Po 3500 mAh non-removable battery which has fast charging technology. However, the smartphone doesn’t have wireless charging technology. Standby time is up to 24 days, talk time is up to 22 hours, and movie playback is up to 11 hours.
Price and Availability
Price of Nokia 8.1 is said to be $453 USD, However, we can’t tell if that is the official price. The smartphone will be available shortly in stores in India and worldwide.
