OnePlus 6 received its first OxygenOS Open Beta build and is based on Android 9.0 Pie. OnePlus brought the new beta update to its top of the range device months after deploying Android P Beta versions.
OnePlus 6 is one of the first smartphones to receive Android Pie, the new version of the operating system launched by Google last month. In addition to version 9.0, OxygenOS Open Beta 1 for OnePlus 6 offers a new “Do Not Disturb” mode and game mode 3.0, which includes a text notification mode and adds notification for third-party calls. Users must manually download the ROM update package to receive all the news.
As revealed on the official changelog – available on a post published on the OnePlus forum – OxygenOS Open Beta 1 brings the brand new interface for Android 9.0 Pie. It also includes the gesture default navigation Android Pie, which is very similar to what we have seen on the iPhone X. Furthermore, there are various system improvements.
The OxygenOS Open Beta 1 for OnePlus 6 also includes a series of customizations. For example, support for color customization is available.
Being a beta version, OxygenOS Open Beta 1 for OnePlus 6 has some problems that had already been foreseen. The Chinese company has already made it known that some applications may not work as expected when running on this beta version. With the installation of the latest beta version, the Google Pay service will not work either – most likely the user will see a message saying “The device is not certified by Google” every time he tries to access Google Pay.
To switch from a stable official version to the Android P Beta version, you need to locate the ROM update package from an OxygenOS server and then copy the package to the OnePlus 6 archive. After doing this, the user must go to Settings > System updates and then “click” on the gear icon at the top right to go to Local Update. Once you click on the installation package, go to Update immediately> 100% System Update. Finally, select the Restart system option to update your smartphone.
