Pixelphone S1 was launched today, the 15th of February after being announced on the 9th of February. The budget smartphone boasts of a 75% screen to body ratio with no side bezels in sight. The screen stretched all the way to the side of the phone, just like the Galaxy S8. Apart from the screen, what else does the Pixelphone have to offer? Lets find out.
Design
A mix of plastic and metal, the Pixelphone S1 is a beauty to behold no doubt. The back is smooth and comfortable to hold and flaunt, while the dual antenna lines makes the phone look more stunning. The rear camera is at the top middle starting a vertical train, with the LED flash underneath then the fingerprint scanner comes close.
There’s also a speaker at the bottom corner for loud music. It isn’t as slim as you may think, even though it comes with a low battery capacity. It measures 8.5 mm to the sides and weighs 165g, it’s available in only Gold and Black colors as well. The 4G LTE compatible device supports dual nano sims, the sim slot 2 also serves as the microSD slot.
Display
Well its bezel-less to the sides but not entirely. The top and bottom corner still have much annoying bezels. The top bezels can be forgiven because it houses the selfie camera, but the bottom bezel is pretty vacant and shouldn’t be there. Anyways, lets focus on the screen now, shall we?
The 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen dishes out a much taller display when in landscape mode. The screen boasts of a resolution of 720×1280 pixels and 294 pixel per inch density for clear visuals. The multi-touch screen with 18:9 aspect ratio offers scratch resistant, thanks to the 2.5D curved glass screen.
Hardware and Software
Working behind the scene is the MediaTek MT6737M chipset with Quad-core processor, the processor reaches a clock speed of 1.3GHz. It has a 64-bit CPU architecture, while the ARM Mali-T720 MP1 with just a single core is fully in charge of everything graphics. The graphics processor reaches a clock speed of 600MHz with a 28nm process technology.
For multitasking, 2GB RAM space is available for all your light multitasking, boasting of a memory speed of 640MHz. In terms of storage, there’s a 16GB internal storage space available, which you can also upgrade up to 128GB with microSD. The S1 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system with modified user interface.
Camera
For photography, it has 8MP rear camera that takes clear photographs if 3K resolution. The camera boasts of a f/2.2 aperture lens with a LED flash underneath that captures pictures with 3264 x 2448 pixels im dimension.
The camera comes with lots of features as well, and record videos of 720 pixels at 30 frames per second. Take selfies, with the 5MP front shooter, the camera has a f/2.4 aperture and a 78 degree wide angle lens for group selfies.
Battery
Powering the Pixelphone S1 is a 2000mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery. It doesn’t come with a fast charging feature, so it should take you more than two hours to fully charge the device.
