Just like on Facebook, you can now post a Whatsapp Status with colourful text and backgrounds

When Whatsapp introduced the Whatsapp Status feature in its Android and iOS apps, it was greeted with mixed reactions from the general populace, many of them (us, actually) furious at Uncle Mark for copying yet another Snapchat feature.

Now, Whatsapp has added the option to compose statuses with default colourful backgrounds, custom fonts and links, and this time, the feature is copied over from its parent company, Facebook, so there’s no room for complaints.

When it was newly introduced, you could make statuses by taking pictures with your phone camera, choosing from the photos on your device storage, or writing plain text on a default black background. You could also make doodles and add emojis on your statuses. The functionalities have now been extended with the latest update to WhatsApp.

In the last month of 2016, Facebook added the feature which allows you to post your status updates and add links to them in a variety of colourful backgrounds, first on its mobile application and later on the web-based client. This same feature has been replicated in WhatsApp.

Reports say that the company began testing the feature early in August and had started rolling it out to all users starting from today, the 22nd of August.

A pencil icon has been added directly on top of the camera icon in the STATUS tab in the Android app, which when clicked initiates the process of adding statuses with colourful backgrounds and links.

To get this feature on the WhatsApp application on your phone, you would have to wait for the update to be rolled out to you over the air. The changes are made on the server side of the application, so downloading an update on the Google Play Store won’t be needed.Right now, though the new form of WhatsApp status updates can be made on the mobile iOS and Android applications, they can be viewed by contacts on the web version of the app.

Recently, WhatsApp has been adding new features for both its mobile and web applications. Only last week, the option to view status updates on WhatsApp Web, which could previously be done only on the mobile smartphone applications, was added in an update.

This update serves to help users, especially businesses reach out more to their contacts and connect with potential customers/clients. You could put a link to your official web page and a corresponding eye-catching background to foster engagement.
