The Tecno Camon series became widely popular after the release of the Camon C8, and last year’s Camon C9 endeared the series of camera-centric smartphones more to smartphone lovers around the country. Tecno Mobile recently refreshed the lineup with the 2017 iteration of the Camon series – the Camon CX (C10), and — for the first time — a mini version called the Camon CX Air.
The former is better than the latter in terms of features and specs, but many of their specs are so similar that many people were led to ask what the difference between both smartphones was upon glancing through their specs for the first time. Therefore, it is pertinent that we compare both to point out the differences between the Camon CX and Camon CX Air, and to help you make a better choice in case you’re planning to purchase a smartphone soon.
In this article, I pit Tecno’s newest devices, the Camon CX and CX Air against each other. I’m going to compare them according to their specifications (display, design, memory, battery, hardware, software, etc) and when I’m done, I’ll leave you to choose which one is best for you. Enjoy.

Tecno Camon vs Camon CX Air – Device Comparison
Here is a table of contents to make it easier for you to breeze through the article. Click on any of them to jump to the content:
Display & Design
In terms of the display and design, both smartphones have almost the same specifications. Both sport 5.5-inch IPS displays, but the Camon CX has a pixel resolution of 1920 * 1080 (Full HD) while the Camon CX Air has a pixel resolution of 1280 * 720 (HD).
Both smartphones have a metal unibody design and 2.5D Glass protection which gives them a slight curve on all four edges
Performance & Storage
The Camon CX is faster with its Octa-core 2.0GHz MediaTek processor, but the Camon CX Air isn’t slow with its quad-core 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6750T processor.
They both have the same processor memory (2GB RAM) and 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.
Camera
The Tecno Camon CX ups the camera game from what we saw last year, featuring 16MP cameras on both the front and rear top bezels. Its rear camera comes with a ring quad flash system that makes sure your pictures are never gloomy and dark, while the front camera ensures your selfies are always lit with its dual LED flash.
The Tecno Camon CX Air, on the other hand, stays on the same page with last year’s Camon C9, sporting 13MP cameras on the front and rear. A dual LED flash is present at its rear while the selfie camera has a single LED flash for company.
Battery & Charging
For phones to be slim and sleek as this year’s iteration of the Camon series, we shouldn’t expect them to pack a large battery capacity like what is obtained in the Tecno L series. Nonetheless, the Camon CX dares to take things higher than last year’s offering with its 3200mAh battery which comes with fast charge technology, while still retaining its slimness and sleek.
The Camon CX Air packs the same 3000mAh battery in the Camon C9 and doesn’t possess fast charging capabilities.
Connectivity
As you would expect, both smartphones support 4G LTE networks, and this is achieved via a dedicated dual micro-SIM slot. Even though the Camon CX has fast charging capabilities, it possesses the same micro USB v2.0 port as its smaller version.
Both, however, support USB OTG for reverse charging and easy transfer of files between devices.
Software & Hardware
Apart from the camera setup, this is probably the most exciting aspect of the new Camon smartphones. They come running on the latest version of the Android operating system, Android 7.0 Nougat with Tecno’s custom UI, HiOS layered on them. This means you can enjoy the useful Google Assistant, split-screen mode, advanced battery saving and a host of other new features on these smartphones.
In terms of hardware, the Camon CX and Camon CX Air come with a feature relatively new in the Camon series; a fingerprint sensor positioned on the back panel of both smartphones.
Conclusion – Tecno Camon CX versus Camon CX Air
As we can see from the comparison and table above, the Camon CX is the better smartphone of the duo, featuring a better camera, display quality, battery and processor. This is to be expected since the CX Air is a slightly downgraded version of it.
However, the Camon CX Air is also a good smartphone in its own terms and was made to satisfy a particular category of consumers. And as you can bet, it would be cheaper than the Camon CX.
