The Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer features an on-screen fingerprint sensor and also a black transparent back. The transparent back of the Mi 8 Explorer lets you see its internal component. But the real question now is, Are Xiaomi the first phone maker to actually manufacture a notch display smartphone that can rival the iPhone X? Let’s put both smartphones into a comparison test and see which one comes out on top.

The iPhone X and Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer both feature front and rear glass. The frame of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer is made up of aluminum (7000 series). While the frame of the iPhone X is made up of stainless steel. The only downside in design for the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer is that there’s no IP certified rating for water resistance. While the iPhone X is resistance to water with an IP67 certified rating. The Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer features a transparent back and a fingerprint sensor, which you won’t find on the iPhone X.
The iPhone X features facial identification technology. And it isn’t a big deal to the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer, cause it also features a 3D face unlock. The Mi 8 Explorer features a separate infrared lens in the notch designated for face unlock. In the notch of the Mi 8 Explorer, you have a 20MP front camera, Proximity sensor, Earpiece, Infrared lighting and Infrared lens. The Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer weighs 177 grams and measures 7.6mm thick while the iPhone X weighs 175 grams and measures 7.7mm thick. The dual rear camera and LED flash of the Mi 8 Explorer and the iPhone X is aligned in a vertical direction at the top left corner.

Both the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer and the iPhone X sports a Super AMOLED touchscreen. The iPhone X features a 5.8-inch screen size, an 82.9% screen-to-body ratio, 19.5:9 aspect ratio display, 1125 x 2436 pixels resolution and 458 pixels per inch density. While the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer comes with a 6.21-inch screen size. The display of Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer will not be as bright and sharp as the iPhone X. The Mi 8 Explorer features an 18.7:9 aspect ratio display, 1080 x 2248 pixels and 402 PPI density.

For all those who buy the iPhones cause of its camera. Well, you should have a rethink about that cause Chinese phone makers are manufacturing phones with a great camera. According to DxOMark, the iPhone X scored a total 97 points while the Xiaomi Mi 8, which has the same camera specs with the Mi 8 Explorer scored 99 points.
Coincidentally, the dual rear camera of both the iPhone X and the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer consist of a dual 12MP sensors with a f/1.8 aperture on the primary sensor and f/2.4 aperture on the secondary sensor. They also feature OIS, phase detection autofocus and 2x optical zoom. The Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer sports various AI features. Up front, the Mi 8 Explorer features a 20MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. While the iPhone X features a 7MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture. Overall, it’s a win for the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer in the camera department.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer VS iPhone X – Hardware and Software
Powering the iPhone X is a A11 Bionic chipset with Apple’s three core graphics processing unit. While the Mi 8 Explorer comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with Adreno 630 graphics processing unit. The A11 Bionic is one of the most powerful chipsets out there. The total CPU clock speed of the Snapdragon 845 chipset is faster than that of the A11 Bionic chipset, which is the only major difference between the two chipsets.

Running on the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer is Xiaomi’s latest MIUI 10 user interface with Android 8.1 Oreo. While the iPhone X runs on Apple’s own iOS 11.1.1. In terms of memory, you get an 8GB memory with 128GB storage on the Mi 8 Explorer. And a 3GB memory with either 64GB or 256GB storage.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer VS iPhone X – The Price
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer is sold for around $582 (N203,700) while the iPhone X cost around $1219 (N426,650). The difference between both smartphones isn’t much. And it doesn’t warrant such price difference. The iPhone X has a better display quality but what about the camera, hardware, battery? Value for me lies with the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer.

The MI 8 explorer comes with a screen-body ratio of 88% and it has a pressure-in display finger print sensor which the iPhone wished it had for itself.
The MI 8 explorer edition has 4.0 fast charging technology from Qualcomm, way faster than the iPhone and it comes with a fast charger in the box unlike the X. And it supports wireless charging as well.
Thanks. Last but not least, the snapdragon 835 was already faster than the iPhone chipset in most comparisons on the internet so it is easy to guess this 845 will beat it badly in daily usage, the results in benchmarks can say the contrary, in real life, the Qualcomm chip is way faster.
